carb and head wanted

hey there i have an original datsun crate engine i will be building out some day soon its a short block and i would like a new/rebuild head or the stuff to build my own. 
im also looking for a set of dual carbs and the intake or just a normal carb as mines pretty gummed up.
69 datsun 1000 deluxe. 73-78 Mazda b1800
65 datsun 1600 roadster.

I have a pair of weber DCOE 40mm carbs, freshly rebuilt and jetted for a worked A12.

Also have a NOS [brand new] round port head.

I have a dual intake manifold also but not willing to part with it, it is suited for A14/15 head (oval shaped intake ports).

clyons8 what would you be chasing for the carbs? assume they dont come with linkages or anything?

would they need to be tuned down for a 1000 engine? iim new to carbs and stuff

I was looking for around the $800 mark for the pair.

They have to be tuned for any sort of engine. If you are new to carbs it might be a good idea to stick to a downdraft carb like a 28/36 DCD or 32/36 DGAV.

in reality for a stock A10, you can't go past the Hitachi they came with..
if you had a mild cam in your motor, you could look at a pair of SU's to perk it up somewhat..

ok i cant aford 800 for them so .
ok why would that be just to small of an engine?
im still looking for a carb for the car or a rebuild kit but rather get a new carb

the round port head is that the stock head? if so what are you wanting for it?

Round port head is stock yes.

Probably too much considering your response on the price of the carbs.

Why don't you get a 1200 head from somewhere closer to your locality. Buy a used unit. GL with your search.

i can aford the carbs but not right now. was not expecting them to be so much. i think a head is more importaint right now as i dont have one for this engine. and im not willing to buy a head for more then 500 canadian. as i am broke bugger.

A12 heads are pretty common, it's the freight that will cost alot. They are fairly similar to the A10 (I can't think of any differences off the top of my head) so you could definitely use one. What's wrong with the head you have on the motor? Is it better to rebuild that?

i was wanting to build up the crate engine and still be able to drive the car this summer. i should be able to find a a12 head in canada there are more 1200s. i almost bought a 78 b210 (1400cc engine i believe) but they sold it before i could get there.

I reckon if I owned that crate motor I wouldn't ever use it. I'd just clean it up a bit put some new grease on it and pack it up nicely again. If you could find some other NOS stuff to build it up to a full engine that would also be quite a cool little project.

I can help you with a used round port head if you get really stuck but in all honesty it might be easier for you to just buy a whole running A12 and install that into your car.

ya i have been thinking of just keeping it make a nice show peice.  it would be a huge task trying to find nos in canada but u never know some dealers may have parts.

ill prob end up doing that run the engine in it till its dead runs and drives as is just needs a carb rebuild and a new brake master cyl.
