Project Fang.

Most of you from datsun1200 will know this car and have seen it's although slight evolution to date. I was clunking through a wrecking yard one day when I came across a 2008 nissan micra with the RSP missing and seen the CR14DE in it. I got thinking about this and started formulating a plan around a light engine. After a chat with Leigh, aks Lagwagon, I ended up buying his old 1K sedan but it needed way too much work for what I wanted so I got rid of it and started looking for something else. Chris pointed me to this site and Rymax had a grey thou for sale in Shepperton and a fistful of cash later I was on my way home with Fang.

Many things have happenned since the start. To be honest I have spent most of my time fixing up the standard components and doing what I believe to be tasteful modifications, but each to their own. The theme is old school streeter, nothing cosmetically inside or out past 1975. Under the bonnet is an open slather. I started with some retrimmed seats that I got from D, and then got some old Watanabe B types that fit the picture well.

The following is copied from my 1200 build thread.

So I felt like lowering the front end today, so I got out there, removed the spring pads and chopped a little out then reset the bushes and drove it around the block for a feel. Went good. I liked it.

I liked it so much that I thought I'd lower the rear, although I don't have any lowering blocks I figured I'd do the old flippy trick...

Whoops!

So now I think I might either get some lowering blocks or get the leaves reset. Dang. It looks so good though.

Then along came the option wheel much to my disgust... So after i got it...

A wheel for every occasion

An old full size roadster style wheel. Needs restoration.

A smaller Boss wheel, a bit grotty but ok.

The KB10 wheel. Wood needs redoing and horn not working but otherwise really good.

And after I made the executive decision to modify the cover to put on it.

Needless to say I'm pretty happy with the result. I'm not sure how old the cover is, but if I can track down some red leather thronging for it I'll be very happy. It's just red cord for now.

After buying a few under bonnet things for the creation of my own unique hot rod I couldn't quite find the right thing. Last year I tried to aquire Cousin Leighs old quad throttle injection set up but I was unsuccessful and I was pining a little for it. But I have just secured it and it and after I put down the final payment it will be brought back home to roost under the bonnet of Fang.

A reminder of the injection setup to refresh the old memory.

It will look slightly different in my bay, being grey and all, and I might mount the coils differently but now it looks like I'll need to start thinking about a brake conversion...

I didn't buy the A15 as I couldn't afford it but i do have an A14 with a mild cam and a GX head to put on it. I wonder what it will go like... Now to rebuild the 5 speed and sort out one of the H145 3.9:1's into an alloy center. Maybe I'll do that another time. I don't think I'll notice the difference saving 5kg when I weigh over 100...
