Hi guys im gonna pull the front end outta the 2dr i got and need to know the easiest way. last time i done it on the ute it took forever and it always seemed to be under load so it was hard to undo nut and what not (think i stripped a couple) so would like to know how to do it properly lol

I would be interested to know how to do it properley as well.
When I did mine I cut it off the front end that I had from a rusty 1K, so care wasn't an issue.

For the nuts I would suggest drowning them in inox and letting it sit for a while to let the inox work it's magic.
Use a six point socket instead of a standard twelve point if you are concerned about stripping the head on the nut.
When ever you monkey something by using excessive force it usualy leeds to fail.
If the nut feels like it is binding  use some more inox on any new exposed thread and wind it in/out almost like when tapping a new thread to work the inox deeper into the thread.

It won't always work but it is the best way I have found.

yea i always inox them before some are just a prick, the main one i'd like to know is the castor rod

Just winding in and out in small steps with heaps of inox is what I have found works best.

The only other things I can suggest is to use a 6 point socket or 6 point ring spanner and give the breaker bar/spanner a sharp hit with a rubber mallet to get things started.
Clean any exposed thread on the castor rod with a wire brush to stop the nut binding on dirt/paint as it winds over the exposed thread.

Some heat on the nut to expand it could be an option, but you run the risk of over heating things and damaging paint/rubbers in that area.

Is the castor rod the radius rod? Same thing?

Sometimes if they're loose or if the bushings at the end have perished the nut will cross a thread or two, so basically it's a matter of getting it off and hoping that a new nut will be able to thread back on.

Other than that it''s all pretty straight forward, if your pulling the whole lot out start by taking the stub axles out so that the lower control arm drops right down, then take the LCA bolt out. It's almost impossible to do it without removing the stub axle assembly as the transverse spring will make it real difficult to put the LCA back in place.
yea i think it is chris, is it easier to take the castor rod out with it still attached to the LCA when the LCA has been disconnected from the stub and chassis??

the problem i have is putting the castor rod back in trying to line the bolts up that go into the LCA

Yeah okay with lining them up you normally leave the single adjusting bolt (on the other end) loose so you have a bit of play and this tends to helpwith getting it back into place. You can also jack up the underside of that LCA to put it at a height easier to fir the bolts back in.

I guess you could leave it on when removing it but it might make things a little awkward and the LCA may not drop down low enough to take the load off the spring, meaning that when you go to remove the securing bolt for the LCA (the one that runs through the end of the LCA and fixes it to the crossmember) it will have to be hit/tapped out as the spring is still pressing down on the LCA. This can get ugly pretty quick as one end frees up you may struggle to get the entire bolt out.
Is this any help to you Leith?
