Datsun 1000ute for my son., Rowbro's ride

Welcome to my Dato page.  We purchased this number from E-Bay 12Months ago for the huge sum of $372.00.
At this stage I new nothing of fixing or restoring cars,  maybe a battery change.  But because we had a new home and extra space I felt a hobby would be good and set about searching for my Sons first car.  My son 'ET' is 13yrs and is exited about learning to drive the dato.  He has requested the car be Pimped alittle.  As this is my first attempt I fear it will be more like car before pimping.  Well the pimping needs to have!!  green paint, sporty stering wheel and lots of bling.  Added to that the Idea of a Chamelion air-brushed on the sides is high on the request list.

So here we go.  atleast I have a few years to work with.
Cheers

Hello again,

Well I have started to strip the car.  I will add these images soon.  I do however have a question.  Where would I look to purchase a full wiring loom for a 1000ute? when stripping I found all the wires to be perished and cracked.  As this is a major component I figure I should source a replacement before going any further.
Cheers

As far as im aware there are no aftermarket wiring harnesses avaliable for the 1000's.
The easiest option that I know of is to use a generic wiring harness.

Here is a link to one that I looked up on ebay at random.

There are heaps of models and manufacturers to choose from, just work out how many circuits you will be running to choose the correct one for you.

Also here is a link to the 1000 Wiring Diagram to help you work out how many circuits you will need to use.

Cool,  I had seen the generic harnesses but was not sure if there was someone that made the harnesses for old cars and sold them.  The wiring diagram looks a bit crazy.  I have a lot to learn,  thanks for this info.  I will continue to rip out the existing wiring and move on.  I must say though the wiring diagram for a modern car must need a navman to help find stuff.

The harness kits should come with instructions to make the process less daunting.
and some are labled every so often along the wire with things like "Indicator" to make wiring as simple as they can make it.

I have not wired up one of these myself, I was going to on my last car before I sold it.
I was going to run all the wires to the basic areas first (engine bay, lights, fuel tank ect).
Then wire up the things I know and things I can check as I go. (Lights and indicators)
This should have got me comfortable with how it all goes together.
Then I was going to get a mate to help out with the engine and dash end of things if I was unable to figure it out fom there.

I was going to transfer all the plugs from my old harness so everything would still plug in as normal.

There are companys that remanufacture wiring harnesses.

here is an example.

Im sure they could make one up for you if you spent enough, but I don't think it would be worth the extra money over the generic harnesses that are avaliable.

I know there is a company that has a download of their installation instructions on their web page.
If I remember who they are i'll post a link to the download for you.
It is a good thing to read no matter which manufacturer you end up using.
