thai b10, (I think) fast restore

hi all,
started full restore yesterday arvo, mostly stripped down already, started stripping paint today,

my back yard mechanic guy, funny thing his name is easy for me to
remember lol its (langer) recons it will be finished inside one month
but i guess the time frame will depend on getting parts like all 4 front and 2 rear blinkers needed urgently,

toying with the idea of using round led lights any opinions very welcome,

Guard Light options.

Genuine nissan long spear indicator.

Cheaper aftermarket long spear indicator.

I have always wondered about these alfa romeo 105 indicators as altenatives to the genuine datsun round guard indicators. (You would need to confirm sizes, but at a glance i'd guess they would be close)

1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.

round guard indicators for the win, just like on 1966 models absolute classics or do as I have done and remove them altogether!

thanks for the links beetwenty,
they look fine the after market spear indicators,
that will cover those and i can get front and rear window rubbers on ebay from bangkok

the big ones for me now are front apron driving lights / indicators with clear lens,
long tail lights, real shame to improvize these but may need to try some funky new round led's on rear

i guess round do look retro right? old beemas and cortinas etc.

looks like i will need to refinish my original grill,

thanks all.

hi all some more pics,
L+R floor pans being replaced, my machanic found some from 720 that seem to fit nice,
the work there doing looks ok to me,
the panels look crappy from blow torch paint romoval,

i guess front guards will come off next once they finish metal work inside and get guards to bare metal,
let us know what yous think of the work so far,

all opinions appretiated,
cheers paul.
whilst doing this floorpan work ive ask em to lower the front seats mount,
does anyone else find the seats unusually high in there b10 ?

i only 5.8 and just clear roof, i dont think my seats are modified bulkier / higher,

im going 1 inch down which is the height height of the upsidedown square U shaped mount at the rear of fornt seats,

will cut into front mount which is the cross chassis steel and weld closed,
cheers.
Good point best do it now as I removed my original whiplash prone seats
in place of upholtered black vinyl old school styled Corona buckets with
headrests and are about 2 inches lower if not 3 now.
Makes a big difference to head area and Im 5 foot 7 inches.
I cant quite see the headrest on your pictures but if anyone has cheap
upholstery place I would look into suzuki alto, hatch or daihatsu handi
front bucket seats as they are superlight and very confortable redone.

Those guys look good with metal work, you should consider flaring the
guards a tad just in case you ever go bigger tyres or stretched ones
over some difference rims with lowering.

1Ks are easy to lower and make a big difference in handling if it wasnt
for the bad road conditions that most poorer countries experience not
to mention here also which is a pretty poor country for the amount of
wealth that is exploited out of it.

The front guards are easily rolled outwards and the rear require a little
more work as they are double skinned but well worth doing also.

There is an easy mod to the drain channel too on the firewall you can get
made it makes heaps of space left over for the rear of the engine area
and allow better view on any rust of leaves stuck there. Ill put a photo
up today sometime to show you but looking at the work you could also
hide all the wiring as much as you can and have a later alternator with
inbuilt fan and regulator to remove the extra clutter from the engine bay.

One more thing is the rear boot area can also hide rust on the spare wheel
well and I plan to totally remove the well replace with flat steel with some
channels on it for strength and place an emergency pulsar wheel underneath
using a van wheel holder setup found usually on townaces and others.

hi d,
thanks for all these tips mate,
i think i may stick with the original seats but will keep an eye out for the ones you mentioned,
i do wanna get some decent size rims on it,
im not keen on flaring the guards but i thought about extending the wheel arch from the inside,
would need custom offset rims then right?

will lower it but for as you say about roads will need to keep it practical also,

probly not gonner throw in too many other mods, wanna get the guys to push on,
looking for sand blaster may need to go 100ks from here in bigger city to look,

cheers paul.
No worries but consider lipping them inside out or folding the inner lip inside up and having it bronzed to stop moisture getting caught or storing on the inside fold. You will need to do this for even mild lowering and 13 x 5.5 or 6 inch wheels with the best road tyres for handling and bad roads which is 165/65/13s. 14s will reduce your cushioning on Thai roads and will be a bumpy ride more suited for
australian cities and although peeps like to go bigger for most cars youll be surprised what just some lowering does to the handling and if you dont fold or lip the guards your steering will rub and so will tires front and back on different undulations.

Dont worry about seats if they already have headrest that great but I cant see them in photos as whiplash is a nasty.

and headlight surrounds,
using 620 tail lights but not happy,

if anyone has anything to offer in the way of front blinkers / parking lights
& tail lights, would be much appretiated,
even info on where i may find em, ive hit a wall
cheers paul.
side markers you should be able to get off ebay, its a waiting game with the others. you can make a plate to replace the front indicators with leds until you find some NOS ones to install

update,
car is in the body shop ready for colour,
some advice / opinions on color please,

looking to go as ive said a bit different,
white body red roof and rally stripe on bonnet and boot on drivers side,
i know 1000 purists like to go for the minimalist one retro colour look including white,
i dont want to over do it or look cheap, i think if the job is quality it will look good,

so  as far as the white is concerned i like this white,
http://en.chevrolet.co.th/vehicles/view-all-vehicles/cars/colorado/e-brochure.html
it can be described as stark white, really clean color,

is there a classic white that i should go for, i once painted a torana in a color called datsun classic white,
the color kind of had a bit of body to it (so to speak) not just like stark white,

il talk reds after, opinions very welcome,
ty.
My favourite stripe/colour combo on a 1000 is this...

Nothing is overdone, the colour is not too vibrant and the stripe is not too large.
It has sensible wheels and a good ride height.
It just looks right.

I sit more on the purist side of the fence and shy away from fluros, camelion, metallics ect.
My personal preference is for colours that look plausable as a factory colour.

I feel that doing less but doing it right is far more important than doing the most extreme thing you can think of.

My only suggestion would be to not chase the most extreme shade of which ever colour you choose.
As an example of this I don't think the 1000 above would look as nice if it had been painted in the red that the cars in the background have been painted in.

Light colours will hide body imperfections and dark colours will show more imperfections. (If you are talking about gloss finishes).

I think dark blues go very well with chrome window trim, bumpers ect.

I don't think it is so much a matter of which colour (Red, Blue, White ect), it is more about which shade of your preferred colour you go with and how tastefully you go about adding in your stripes.
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
I like that red b10 also its got lovely balance but would stick w/ creamy ice cream white
and put the same kind of stripe if you like to match your choice of wheel centre color.
This is one I love from the past

Red is an incredibly hot color to have in summer climates and difficult to touch up
white is the opposite and a variety of colour matched add ons can be used

another white beauty

same but front

firsty, ty b20,
now, my babys original colour is that blood red or burgundy as in you pic,

i love that car and the stripe,
i have considered honering it but have other ideas now,

d, i know this car you showed me,
why the fek does it look so good? its just white with nice stance and nice feet,
what i ask is why the hell does it look so good?

if i have that result i will be very happy
As D pointed out the colour is not 100% white like a household appliance.
It is a colour that has had some thought, Finding the right shade/tint of your prefered colour is what's important.

Nothing stands out as being off or out of character with that 1000.
The colour looks correct for a car of it's age, the wheels are not giant 20 inch chrome spinners, instead they look like an old jap mag wheel. and they fill the wheel arches well without completely going up inside them.

And neither of those cars have dark tint, which in my opinion dark tint is something that takes alot of character away from a 1000.

Just keep it classy and you won't regret it in years to come.
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
Ive always thought green tint would look great on a 1k...that car proves it.
Are coloured tints legal?
Yes they should be legal as I could get a coppery golden tint from my window tint guy.

choices choices

"Close to original look"
If the car is originally that cherry red it really is up to you which youd like but I can say
the white is much more convenient and more visible at night for such a small car
apart from been much cooler in the sun all year round.

"bit sporty"
go for what B20 suggested on the red one

"Unique 2 tone/color"
If you look at the separation of the chrome trim that runs at the top of the panels on the
pic I posted last on those links, you could also to a two colour red bottom and white top
and match your interior with your wheels centres if you run watanabes or other retro
jdm wheels and then run some thin whitewalls also.

"super sport unique"

Another option all depends what your after is a BRE racing theme using red, white, gold
or silver similar to this lotus elan but in reverse to the pics below . Its hard to imagine but
would save a fortune on bumpers chrome & still look great w/ all other chrome highlights.

So like these car but in reverse and without the side stripes etc.
