WTB datsun 1000, no utes!

hi everybody,

after a 1000 i would rather responses from those in S.A. but i know i can't be too picky. so let me know what you have.

cheers!
Not exactly SA, but there is one for sale in Melbourne,
It looks pretty sweet, and seems to have all the bits and pieses that can be a pain to chase.
The guy has a phone number listed on his ad so contact would be easy.

Link to 1000 for sale.

It's close enough to consider hiring a trailer and towing home, assuming travel is a day each way you could get it home over a weekend.

hey mate,

thanks for your response. i am currently talking to the seller and have asked for a few more photos before i head out there. i have requested photos/info on nearly every section that isn't pictured. i have asked about rust in the wheel arches, door sillls, boot and floorpan to name a few.. is there a particular section that 1000's tend to rust in that i may of missed?

thanks again

mike
The only other place that I can think of is around the window rubbers.
Although the car is over 40 years old and 1000 with absolutly no rust will be very hard to find, at that price you can't get too picky.
I paid $3000 for my B10 2 door and I think it has more to fix than the one in the ad I linked you to, But I havn't seen it in person, maybe some one on here might know a little about the history of the car?

Hey Mike, I have some extra photo's if you'd like them.

When he first advertised that months ago (for $3500) I made an offer and set $2200 as my maximum (assuming I would spend about $500 collecting it). That was abruptly declined and here it is struggling to sell for $2200.

Several Adelaide blokes have tried to get it but backed out at the last minute, largely due to the bloke being unable to supply recent images and images of more specific areas. I think they may have been a bit suspect on the rust situation.

But generally from the images I have seen this thing is pretty tidy. As with any Datsun, you won't know how much rust there really is until you tear it all down.
The other thing to do would be to put a Wanted advert in the Gumtree and tradingpost classifieds.

There are a fair few 1000's in Adelaide and it might be worth the effort to find one locally. That way you can at least inspect them yourself.
what a perfect setup all ready to rumble, engineered, economical, powerful and sexy !!!

all words you usually dont find together.

hey guys thanks for all your information and help. firstly thanks beetwenty it is a good price and especially for a 2 door! it has been for sale for a while.. i am plannig to put an a12 in one and use it as a daily and it was your thread about the yellow b20 that has made me a little suss on what lies beneath the carpet and other areas (that ute looked immaculate!) and as clyons8 said the guy is more than reluctant to send me extra photos so to clyons8 i really would be keen on any photos you had. i have posted a wanted ad on gumtree, ozdat and kept my eye on the papers and ebay. i got a response from a guy in sydney with a stock 4 door sedan from ozdat, nothing from gumtree yet (although i found someone in pooraka with a "project" and i missed out on a complete but rough 4 door that was ebay a few weeks ago. i will keep looking but the blue 2 door is growing more and more tempting as the price drops.
Hey d,

i couldn't see the page you linked... engineered 1000? if its anything gutsier than an A series i may be a little scared to handle it haha.
1000 For Sale

It's an awesome ride, click on the username and you'll see his pictures. I think he has a few more coming and there are some other images floating about on that forum.

i will be checking the thread to see some more photos. It's probably just a bit out of my price range but a truly awesome car! that i want to see alot more of. hopefully the right person buys it.
That old 4 door on eBay was my old Datsun 1000!

Probabaly had about five owners since I had it.

Here is the original advert from 2007.

To tell you the truth I reckon the best value is in this ute?

It has an A14 which could quite possibly be an A14T, and it has a 5-speed gearbox. Those two combined would sell for at least $1500.00.
The LPG sedan is just all there ready to go and ready for adding the final touches.

He might do a better price but its up to the owner. 100kws at the wheels from an

A series usually costs around 2.5k and with lpg with economy the same amount.

Engine could be tidied up even further with some chrome and heat proof coatings.

The ute is good but would need 2.5-3K minimum for paint, then another 2k in suspension,

disc brakes, cosmetics, interior dash and engineering an a14 another 500-750aud.

Also might need welding of rust in different areas.

Choices, choices it just depends what you want personally.

South Australia: 1400cc legal in Datsun 1000, simply fill out a change of engine number form and bam, you are away.

Are you looking for something with minimal work or are you after a project?
There are some very forward thinking people there in S.A. the slow movement enthusiasts wouldnt care for

such modifications as they would prefer electric. The other states want big cubes maybe thats why its allowed there

i would save for the turbocharged 1000 on the 1200 forum, there's a chance it'll be for sale for a while if he chooses to sell.

something will come around for you, they seem to be coming out of the wood work lately there's been a steady flow of 1000's on ebay and what not

i am after something with as little work as possible but considering the age they will all have a little to do.. i am leaning towards ones that are mainly stock.. i really want to test out the a10 even if just for a few months. I am still relatively new to car fiddling so the worked ones are probably better with someone with a bit more knowledge. Bidding on the b20 has ended.. did anyone see if it sold? got some mates that may be checking out the blue 2 door this coming weekend.. to be honest that's everything i am looking for (or at least appears to be)... besides the whole interstate thing.
THANKS FOR THE PICS CLYONS8! i don't know if the one on ebay was the same.. but the one on gumtree is yours, its sitting in someones backyard still with the same plates on it.
