You can get a temp rego in Vic,
Andrewzuku and I just drove from Melbourne to the Gold Coast with one.
It will allow you to drive directly from point A to point B, between the hours of 7am and 7pm.
You need to display it on the dash at all times, I would suggest using some sticky tape to hold it down so it won't blow out the window.
I think you need to have your car in a safe condition to get a permit, Brakes, lights all working ect.
Vioc roads say not to use tolls, but the toll company says you are fine to go through toll points to get where you are going.
It was organised for us by the previous owner of the car before we picked up the car, so im not to sure about what is neded to get one.
We got pulled over in Ballina with no plates, If you get pulled up just be nice and show the police officer your permit and explain what you are doing, you should be back on the road in no time.
I would suggest some insurance for your trip as well,
I think we went with suncorp. If you were not going to rego the car for a while I
think you can cancel your insurance within 21 days and get a full
refund.
Suncorp won't insure a 1000, But if you are looking into insurance you should find out if other companys will do something similar.
