Fiberglass Panels, Who would want some?

I'm thinking about making some fiberglass guards. I'm just trying to get a feel for demand, and what people would be willing to pay for them. I havn't made the moulds yet, and there are acouple of curves that I'm not sure how they will go, but if I can make good quality guards, and suply them primed, who would want some, and what would you think is a fair price. I still havn't been able to figure out what they will cost in materials, but if the difference in what people would pay, and what they cost to make is too big, than it's not worth making the moulds. Also are there any other panels that people would like?
I bought a bonnet for 200 and last time I checked guards were around 600 and they were pretty good quality

theres a couple of people with moulds already, i think is it Minispares or something have them and Dattoman over here has moulds with flares on them..
Was that 600 for the pair of guards? even at that price, thats pretty expensive. I'm hoping to be able to make them for less, but will have to see.

Hey Dundee, do they have standard guards or are they all flared? And what do they go for?

yea 600 for the pair sorry and minispares made them as dundee pointed out

flared guards are too big in some moulds and stock ones with the inside lip are useless.
Mine are carefully rolled outwards to suit a number of wheel and tire combos and
doesnt look modified at all. The inside lip is the big issue for tyre clearances when
fully lowered where steering points can be modified for less lock causing tyre scrape.

I have seen a few topics started on various datsun forums about this, most end up with the same outcome.
Flared guards seem to be avaliable and standard ones always seem to be no longer avaliable.

If you have moulds for the standard shape please let us know a rough price for a set if you are still willing to make up a set.
I know I will be interested in a set if they become avaliable.

I have seen a set of fibreglass guards on a 1000 sedan at a car show in brisbane, the quality was good and owner seemed very pleased with them.
He claimed to have bought them through a mini store a while back, but could not rember exactly which one.

Here is a pic of the car with them fitted.

1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
what would be good would be fibreglass bootlids and tailgates even doors

Umm those guards in the photo of the car look like originals and pretty good
pitty the owner put an antenna through the guards its looks like testicles
hanging from Miranda Kerrs armpits.

I can make moulds for boot lids and tail gates and bonets, and can probably repair doors with fiberglass skins, but still need the metal frame and metal inside of the door, not sure how legal it would be if the door was completley fiberglass.

If there guys out there that make guards, then they probably make bootlids.
Doors in complete FRP would be legal if you add reinforcement to them using carboard channels.
Sounds weak but with FRP you can get stronger doors with better side on protection than stock
crap heavy steel 1000 doors which have no protection anyway.

Best have no quarter windows or glass that runs up and down you door.
You use gated alloy flat bar, 2 pieces of MR10 Lexan the good stuff, scratch & shatter proof.
Divide Lexan in 2 pieces, rear halve is fixed with silicon on the runner while other runner
has front section including quarter window section to slide back for air. Like a Kombi, Landrover etc
Im in the process of doing it for my coupe doors but need 2 coupe door top sections to modify.

Sounds like you have it sorted. I was thinking of using the standard top section for the windows and just bolting them into the new fiberglass door shell. As for the cardboard to re-enforce, I understand how that works, the cardboard is only the shape, not the strength, that comes from the fiberglass. How thick do you make panels though, 5mm?
I think 4mm thick is plenty, the reason I think sliding windows are better is the ease of
fitment and also no need for noisey old rubbers or replacements. It will also make the
car cleaner looking if using stainless runners and no need for things that wear out like
winding mechanism or its weight. Its harder to make steel frames stay fixed on FRP
without cracking as time goes by.

I saw some GTR R33 doors that were from carbon fibre and where 8kg each with
full reinforcement and saved about 50kg a side, hell of an expense though!
Lancia Fulvia coupes and some other cars came out factory with FRP doors.

I want to start easy and make some guards, but need to get some cash to make the moulds. I'm thinking around $260 a side to make the moulds.
You should have a market on this forum.

Im going to to some custom guards for my kb10 with longer front end
it will be 10 inches longer so will have my time cutout for me making
the guards, inner engine bay sides and bonnet longer..
All for the sake of better handling and LZ16ET.

There hasn't been much interest in it so far though. If a couple of poeple are interested in a pair of guards, that makes the moulds worth wile. Might do it any way for mine but might take a bit longer.
if there gonna be shmick i'll grab a set, possibly with the inner lip removed
