What were you thinking of trying?
Do you have something in mind?

If you havn't got it sorted after three grilles,I have a further two grilles for your project.
But only if you think it will work.

Im keen to see what you come up with.

On a side note, I asked about getting a grille cromed a few months back.
The electroplaters said some datsun grilles fall apart when going through the electroplating process, they said the rivets in them dissolve.
so if you are thinking of chroming it when you are done, find out which rivets to use when assembling your grille

Hmm... a new grille for the 1k,Then people will be even more confused as to what you drive.

haha to right, i'm pretty sure you can just polish the grill because they're stainless steel chris can confirm this but im pretty sure thats what he told me.

well i've got a couple ideas so far not 100% yet -

1. just delete the badge by replacing the center strip with one from another grill (fairly easy)
2. recess the headlights (if need be) and run the strips over the headlights to hide them (considerably more difficult) but not sure how it would look

thats it so far if you can add anything feel free im open to ideas

I like the idea of just deleting the badge by replacing the center strip with one from another gril.
It will not look too out of place, it should be one of those mods that get people wondering why it looks different without picking why.

maybe put something like the deluxe boot badge from a b10 on the lower left side of the grille.
(similar to where the coupe grille badge goes).

Im a big fan of subtle mods, you don't want it looking like you have had your 1k pimped by Xibit.

lol good video

yea i'll probably just go with deleting the badge first of, i've seen that badge on the coupe grill not to sure if i like it or not. i have to hide led blinkers in the grill too which shouldn't be to hard

So youre talking a billet grill type something like this?

Not sure it would work covering the lights on a 1k as the bonnet contours would leave a gap at the top on each side...I have always wanted to see someone do this on a 1200 however.

I remember seeing a do-it yourself instruction on how to make them and it didnt seem too complicated...basically cutting ribs and them decking them out with the "slats"

Still, it would look great acrros the front and stopping at the lights...the original grills kinda have that look anyway.

...Or if you really wanna get carried away:
yea i was contemplating it, i know what you mean about the contours and that's what was putting me off i was trying to use photoshop to see what it would sorta look like but im hopeless at it

as a matter of fact i just started doing this to a couple of spares that i have, to make a good grill out of three.

definately stainless steel, as the wire brush didnt rip off any chrome when i was stripping some old paint.
also in regards to the badge, i attempted to re-enamel it myself with some oil based enamel from the hobby store and a brush, worked very well.

here it is so far without having a proper polish, and missing the bottom trim as i had to remove it from another grill and am yet to finish it off.

Yeah I like the grilles without the badge, I might be a bit biased though haha. Mine had the middle strip removed and replaced with a lower or upper that was cut a bit shorter. Heaps more clean look.
that looks real good todd, did you just drill them out then pop rivet them back on?

i just had a look at your ratb10 and now i can't decide if i like it with or without the badge
