On my B20, there is a heater switch on the left hand side of the dash in the equivalent place as the wiper switch on the left hand side. Obviously it is electrical but what does it  operate?? i cant see any heater hose holes in the firewall and its pretty obvious that it hasnt had any conventional type of heater core type heater in it ever. my question is, do they have some type of heater elements in them? what do they look like and where are they??

The datsun 1000 Deluxe had an option for a 2 speed heater fan switch. It looks the same as the wipers switch and is located at the other end of the dash unit.
 
It only controls the speed of the heater fan and not the heating unit itself. That is controlled on the unit directly with the knob, levers and flaps.
