Calling dibs on items listed on auction sites., ebay, yahoo.

Should we have a system where members can call "dibs"  for items listed within online auctions?
Or maybe express intrest in an item, e.g.
"I need this part to make my 1000 roadworthy, It is keeping me from finishing my project"
Something along those lines.
Then members can use it to determine weather a part can help a member instead of ending up in a spares stash somewhere.

Reasons For.

  • Buyers have the potential to save some cash.
  • We all buy more than we sell, so loosing out when selling is out weighed by savings made on purchases.
  • Parts can go to members who need it the most, instead of going to those who have the most cash.

Reasons Against.

  • Sellers get less, making 1000's less attractive to sellers, (may leed to more 1000's going to metal recyclers with usable parts not removed causing less parts avaliable in the future).

The main reason I see for trying something like this is to get parts to those who need them the most.

I am on the fence as to weather this is a good idea or not. I would like to hear what other members have to say.

i dont think you can call dibs, im not about to go into a bid war with someone if i know they need it or that it's going to stay in the 'datsun circle' so to speak, making people aware with an express interest for ebay/yahoo items section would be good especially for hard to get stuff. so atleast you know who your bidding against lol

I think they are wise words Leith.
Who else is keen for an expression of intrest section?
If it looks like it will be used i will put up a new section within the trading area for E.O.I. on auctions.
That way each topic can be for seperate auctions, I think that would be the least confusing way to do things.

yeah i think an 'ebay/found items for sale' thread might be a good idea.
have seen it work on multiple forums and that way people can avoid bidding war against people who may not necessarily need something or what have you.

don't think dibs should be called, but just a friendy attitude but if people want something then go for it
Thanks for the input guys, I have made a new section at the base of the trading area for ebay & Yahoo Auctions.
I think this will benefit everyone here.
Use it to express interest in auctions or to show others something you have seen for sale.

if you have something that would fit my 1000 i would appreciate the opprtunity to by it for the price u want before you went and put it on an auction site if no 1 has given interest after  a curtain time then u have the choice to sell for what ever u can get
Great ideas so we dont push the prices over the top against each other.

Mano any pics of your car on datsun1200.com?

darega yea i think there is a few not recieved very well they did not seem to appreciate my modifications, well we use what we can get hey and when a car is 95 percent of it not in stock in any nissan ,repco or the like it  doesnt  leave u to many options
