A sardine can with out a roof ...imagine being in a smash in one of these!
They look cool though!
Safer than a bike  it would actually need some serious 8-10 point roll cage type setup hidden in the panels & underneath the floor for extra strength. If I ever do one it will definitely have longer wheelbase by extending front runners & using a one piece tilt front end in FRP.  The challenge would be to keep it - 600kg.

Actually way safer than Lotus 7, locost or caterham where rear end accidents cut your spine in halve.

D, This would not be sub 600kg, but how about this for a way out there idea?...

A datsun roadster and datsun 1000 share a wheelbase of 2280mm,
The track width on a roadster is close to the 1000 as well.

So how about a 1000 body on a roadster chassis, this would also make a 2ltr turbo legal if it was registered as the roadster.

The 1000 body looks like it would line up pretty well with a roadster chassis, the pics below are to scale.

The rear seat looks like it would be a problem in a sedan, but if there was no roof, hmmm.

The roadster is independent front suspension but no strut towers to worry about so also a good fit for a 1000.
and are roadsters H165/H195 diff?

although im not sure how fitting an engine would go, as i would think the roadster engine would sit further back, so maybe a rotary swap?

Actually ingenous idea

This would solve many problems in strengthening a 1000 cabrio.

The engine is no problem at all just use an L series or QSR23DE
(QR with SR crank) with quads, It would definitely be different!

Now to find the hardest part, a roadster chassis.

My issue with motor positioning is that the drivers seat is much further towards the rear of ther car in the roadster vs 1000.
so i would assume a more rearward motor position in the roadster.

Yeah, roadsters go for $$$, maybe a real rough one just for the chassis?
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
Welding up the doors will solve the issues of seating further to the rear but in all preference would go for longer wheelbase of 99inches for better handling and use the 1000 front end to save weight. I could possibly use a 411 or 620 chassis instead due to the price of roadster parts. I really appreciate the diagrams you enlightened me with! will it be possible to find the 620 or 520 chassis diagrams? The 411is also getting rare but also worth considering by adapting the 1000 front end.

The mini speedster conversion are quite common
