Super efficient more hp A10 engine, 1 for the enthusiasts

For those looking for more hp dont forget there are other options with your 1000.

Been looking at the benefits of running lighter pistons, longer rods, friction coatings and heat proof coatings and there is definitely alot to be gained with making the A10 even more efficient, powerful and reliable.

The heat proof coatings are amazing at reducing the heat loss through the engine components making them last longer and not to mention a proven increase in BMEP.

Friction coatings are self explanatory on how they achieve efficiency.

Longer rods from A12 121.5mm using milled 1.5mm A15 pistons increase rod stroke ratio again to 2.059 and the 3mm bigger bore improves valve shrouding and compression. This increases the time efficiency of the combustion as proven even lately on long rod sr20ve and honda K motors.

Keeping the exhaust thermal heat is another important part by heat proof coating the manifold and depending on how far you want to go could even use bike pistons which are very cheaply available at 76mm bore or less and use a baby turbo setup for extra torque best would be twin charging and efi etc.

Either way a small turbo setup a10 using a good ball bearing setup will overcome the lack of torque of the 59mm stroke but will also be able to spin providing your bottom end and top end is built for it to 8500rpm quite easily and even with smaller ports accompanied by longer inlet manifolds be able to be a very peppy engine easily capable of 100kws at the engine when you compare it to the same sized inferior mini engines which are achieving this with a small supercharger, a single su and 998cc.

There are also other technologies to consider as long as they dont clutter than engine bay with rice

I especially like...
In the modified vehicle, a Passat 1.4, the existing integrated starter generator (ISG) was replaced with the CPT SpeedStart ISG for quicker response during start/stop events.

The existing 68Ah VRLA battery was replaced with a 100Ah battery (two Exide 50Ah Orbital High Carbon batteries in parallel) located under the boot floor. These batteries use a spiral wound absorbent glass mat design with added carbon in the negative active material. They have been laboratory tested to 220,000km of simulated car use.

integrated starter generator and propulsion boost for take offs using energy stored from engine braking is awesome

Here is a 1L turbo for an example, great video must watch

I would love to get a spacer plate to bore a sleeved 83mm A series safely
to avoid any bore to rings sealing issues, I wonder if anyone has a contact
to Gary, lemonhead on datsun1200.com he might have one?

59mm A10 crank
121.5mm A12A rods
83mm 29.5mm CA18DET pistons shaved 1.5mm
1277cc and 2.059 rod stroke ratio

Also love a mains girdle to strengthen the 3 main bearing crank
the late Gordon Dobey used to use for bathurst 1000 race cars.

1277cc would be a nice setup with no engineering issues
with valve springs and cam could be a nice 8500rpm engine

Nice find mr D,

I hope this is not too far off topic but...Here is a video about a guy that built his own 999cc v twin engine and motorcycle in his garage back in the 90's.
He then sent it racing against factory teams like Ducatti with many 1st and 2nd racing in Daytona from 1995-1997.

Yes i know it is not a car, but trust me it is worth a watch, this guy is a genius.

absolute Magic! Ducati would have been off the scale peed off!

fellas stripped and cleaned an A10 block to see about putting sleeves in but!
the structural strength is consideratbly sacrificed due to the 3 main bearing
design which means it will lose major strength and therefor not willing to go
so large as 83mm or over 76mm. However measuring the bores walls it
looks like 76mm is a stretch as they are pretty thing wall there.
Im afraid the 74.5mm max ring and pistons available is it.
Ill take this block to the machinist for a proffessional opinion.

On closer inspection the bore thickness is 5mm all round for each cylinder
therefore going up 3mm will leave 3.5mm all round which is plenty for strength.
I will use A15 pistons and A12 conrods for this build for a massive 1071cc
