Radiator for 1000 light van

Hello Datsun 1000 Afficionados,
I'm enquiring again on behalf of my uncle - this time he is looking for a radiator for his 1969-70 light van (VB10).

I've gone through the forum entries from you guys and from what you've said, I've concluded that the 1200 radiator won't fit.
My unlce does not go for the aluminium jobs, and today we checked out a Toyota Corolla (about 1999) and an early (1970-80s) Honda Civic, at a wrecker's.  One of you guys suggested the Honda Civic (not sure what year he was referring to) and dimensionally it would fit, except for the top tank outlet being centrally mounted. Still, one could have an elbow there instead of a straight-out pipe. The Corolla rad was about 20-30 mm too wide and about 20 mm too tall. It's probably possible to make it fit - with some fussing about.

However - as one of you said - it's probably simplest to have a triple-row core replacement, using the original tanks. The problem is that my uncle's tanks are not that good, anyway, so I'm wondering if anybody had a spare radiator they were willing to part with. The core does not have to be necessarily that good, as long as the tanks are quite sound.
Thanks everyone!
Regards,
Claudio Sossi
The tanks are brass so can be repaired brazed etc

Thanks for your prompt and useful reply D,

yes, my uncle had considered that option too and ultimately, it may have to be the solution.

I think he would like to have one radiator recored and fixed, whilst still having his car on the road, with the old (leaky) radiator, as there are transport factors, etc. that come into his situation.

Also, to get a core to fit may take more than just the standard fixing time (one or two days, I guess...) until the core is ordered and arrives, etc. I think he would like to have a spare there, just in case of unwelcome 'surprises'.

Cheers,

Claudio
you could check up a suzuki sierra or even a jimny radiator from the wreckers
they are very close just use AN fitting for the bottom feed on the radiator
I heard the Sierra fits the 1000 quite easily and the alloy ones can be
reversed plugged and use AN fitting on the other side.

just check the size here but they are somehow opposite as its definitely
380 tall and 300 wide eg. here is another shot

Thanks for the extra info D!
The dimensions certainly have been a challenge, but also where the inlets and outlets go on the tanks.
Sorry - I'm not sure I understand a couple of things you refer to: 'AN' fitting and a jimny radiator. Also, the radiator you showed (thanks for researching this, by the way!): am I right in thnking it is from the Suzuki Sierra?

My uncle measured his current radiator as 440mm wide and 280mm high at the core. Probably the 300 height would juuuust squeeze in, but would be touch-and-go I think. (He is not going to want to cut away any of the sub-frame underneath.)
The one in your link was aluminium, which is something my uncle wishes to avoid, also. (Although he says it might do whilst he gets his fixed.) I then checked out a second link on that eBay page you supplied and it went to what seemed a brass/copper rad from the US for a Suzuki Samurai. It looked really good, but showed no dimensions (I presume they were like you stated.)

I used their compatibility feature to search for the Datsun 1000 model, but it came up as not compatible. (This means that getting the dimensions from the seller would be essential, to be sure.)

But all in all, d, thanks very much for helping out with extending our search options! I think we'll keep looking for a used original, if anyone is willing to part with it. (They seem pretttty hard to find!) But thanks to you, we seem to have some fall-back options now!

Kind regards,
Claudio
