Engine Mounts, TEM0129 36mm Height

I decided to change the engine mounts on my 2 Door because things had started to feel a little wobbly while driving.
I used the tops from my old mounts and a 36mm tall mount from ebay as the rubber section.

New rubber section
TEM1029, ebay seller was super cheap auto, so shouldnt be too hard to find

Rubber height comparrison.
Not a bad match, I would guess that the mismatch is a result of the old rubber being compressed from years of use.

The plan.
Old top onto the new base.

Top section.
After cutting the top from my old mount, I drilled two holes to suit the pin and bolt on the new mount.

Test fit.
At this point I found i needed to cut down the stud on my new mount to allow access with a spanner.

After the fit was confirmed I painted my old tops black.

Joining.
I decided to use sikaflex between the two metal plates before assembly.
(I did not use silicone because I have heard it is slightly acidic and can promote rust if applied to metal surfaces.)

I decided to use a nut with a nylon insert to ensure nothing vibrates loose while driving about.
Then finally I cleaned up the excess sikaflex from my join.

Result.

I should point out that these mounts do not have the little location tab on the flat side, so I will update this thread if i have any issues with the mounts turning or if they do anything wierd.

But I don't see that happening as they stayed in place while I tightened them up without holding the mounts at all.

Car drives smooth again

Good post

Well done Ash

Great stuff Ash just for future reference you should roughen up
areas for bonding more to increase surface area.

Also there are a variety of rubber to metal bonds used for industrial
purposes that are available but for an A series you chosen method
should be enough as its no monster or rough revving engine

I was thinking about roughing more but got lazy/out of time.

I did it before work, maybe 30 mins start to finish and didn't see the A12 as a powerhouse, so was not overly worried.

But you are correct, more surface area means more action.

I did sand the surface to be bonded on the new part, and scuffed the old top on the bench grinder, so not all bad.

The phone pics make things look smooth.
i did do a few orientations on the grinder, so the camera is only picking up some or the scuffing in one direction.

the way here then is Ruff Ruff  great result though for the mighty A12, they are underrated as a daily

My little bro has been using my daily driver latley, so the 1k has seen alot of daily action over the past few months.

The A12 is a great daily driver.

D, I had a read of this post again.
I think my pics make it look like i was joining rubber to metal.

The new mount part of this has metal plates at each end as part of the mount, so the sika is between two metal plates which are then bolted together.

My photo showing the new mount and the old top was taken before sanding the black paint on my new mount.
Silly me

Also, for anyone wondering... The new part used is listed as a 1200 mount.

Hi Ash, good work on the mounts. I was in the same boat but did find these on eBay. They were identical and might be more available than 1k ones. Either way good stuff.

Brilliant.

The 1K community has just gone from no engine mount options to a choice of two.

Thanks for the addition to this topic.
