I decided to change the engine mounts on my 2 Door because things had started to feel a little wobbly while driving.
I used the tops from my old mounts and a 36mm tall mount from ebay as the rubber section.
New rubber section
TEM1029, ebay seller was super cheap auto, so shouldnt be too hard to find
Rubber height comparrison.
Not a bad match, I would guess that the mismatch is a result of the old rubber being compressed from years of use.
The plan.
Old top onto the new base.
Top section.
After cutting the top from my old mount, I drilled two holes to suit the pin and bolt on the new mount.
Test fit.
At this point I found i needed to cut down the stud on my new mount to allow access with a spanner.
After the fit was confirmed I painted my old tops black.
Joining.
I decided to use sikaflex between the two metal plates before assembly.
(I did not use silicone because I have heard it is slightly acidic and can promote rust if applied to metal surfaces.)
I decided to use a nut with a nylon insert to ensure nothing vibrates loose while driving about.
Then finally I cleaned up the excess sikaflex from my join.
Result.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I should point out that these mounts do not have the little location tab on the flat side, so I will update this thread if i have any issues with the mounts turning or if they do anything wierd.
But I don't see that happening as they stayed in place while I tightened them up without holding the mounts at all.
Car drives smooth again
