Hey guys this is the new addition to my family... Came in the mail today after a long trip from Victoria. I bought it off David.
Unfortunately I think it had been through a bit of hail either on the way up or when it was at the Brisbane depot, there are tiny dents all over the roof, not very noticeble but enough for me to cry about =/
 
This arvy was the first time I had actually seen a datsun 1000 in person, I absolutely love it... my wife and I use to own a datsun sunny wagon but was 1980 model, absolute rust bucket! But we love it and it was my wifes first car. Got flooded over the bonnet a couple of years ago and got it running that night, drove it no problems for another 6 months! Then regretedly sold it for $500. 
 
Anyway whilst I ramble on/ fall asleep i'll stop and just post some piccys up.

So I can't believe it but I haven't updated in nearly two years!
 
Basically I haven't done a whole lot to her as she has been our daily since day one. 
 
Bought Starsharks a while back, took me a really really long time to sand them up. I basically used the rear diff as a lathe by lifting it up, putting it in 4th gear and letting it idle. Then carefully (without hitting my knuckles on the star points) sanded with 100g, 400g, 1000g, 2000g and then I used 'Blue Magic' metal polish. I also sprayed the centre parts and hand sanded the exposed star part.

Here's a couple of photos of the sliding window I made aswell. The one piece window it previously had in there was about to fall out (sikaflex fails eventually!) so I took the oppurtunity to make some sliding windows before summer for the kids in the back. 
 
I asked around for some glass but was advised that I would have to have the glass tempered, after also attempting to cut the original piece that was on the car previously with my glass cutting blade thingo, I decided it would be too hard and delicate to have to drill holes and curve edges etc. An automotive glass fella suggested I use 'Poly-Carbonate'. 200x stronger than glass and much much easier to work with.
 
I made templates out of thin MDF then clamped it onto the Poly-C and used a blade (not cutting disc) on my angle grinder to cut the final shape.
 
My original plan was to bend aluminium channeling to the shape of the entire window but I found that it would not bend concave without kinking, and that way would be the only way to have the glass sit in.
 
So instead I decided to use some parts I had lying around, a stainless steel rod which would run in the channeling (from previous attempt) along both the bottom and top of the inside of the frame. Cut up the black plastic bits and drilled holes. The stainless bolt and wingnut are a bit prototype and ofcourse I am aware I can't have the phillips head exposed for theives to enter... also the wingnut and also the nuts between the plastic block and the window allow the ability to adjust how firm the window sits on the seal.
 
Got some rubber seals from Clark Rubber to suit the depth of the static window.
 
Basically it's not quite finished yet, I still need to run an aluminium angle strip along the top of the window, glue the black plastic blocks in there correct place on the rod (which will need to be inline with the best angle of tracking of the window) 
 
I also need to sand the sliding windows edge as it's not the prettiest up close.
 
I'm happy with the outcome cause it looks simple and holds the rain out quite easily. And with a couple more corrections and completing, it should be pretty good!
 

 
 

 
 
I am also currently making a timber and alloy roof rack. Probably gonna look a bit bodgy aswell but we really more so need it to chuck our surfboards/boogy boards on the roof.

And after picking at the dint I made my way down below to find some electrolysis congregating beneath the bog  
 

Dam thats nasty Matt, the tailgate was blue from another wagon and had no sign of rust
while that rear quarter must have been fixed many moons ago as Lampy previous owner
that painted it didnt see that and neither did I when I stripped it, just thought a thin layer
of filler must have been factory. That seam where both rear quarter and rear lower tray
meet seems to be a real issue below the tailights for if theres a hairline split in the filler
must have accumulated moisture over time  must use polyurethane sealant there
to replace the old factory stuff.
