My 1000 ute

Hi guys, I thought I might show you all what I just bought and my story so far. I've been looking for something different as a daily and I stumbled on this find. Got it from near Gatton and thought it was a good buy. When we went to pick it up it looked good, fresh backyard 2pac spray job was not the best with heaps of runs and fish eye but it looked pretty easy to fix. Got it home and started to clean it up and found some pretty bad rust. Inside the tray was awesome with no rust but under the carpet in the cab it was bad, the front part of the floors had been repaced before but the rear section of the floor was pretty eaten away. Bloody tar paint had hidden the truth of the state of the floors. I've just finished repacing the floor and seat mounts. Came out really well. Now just ordered r31 brakes for the front and going to start on the mechanical work. So all is going good so far.

Some Specs At the Moment

1968 Datsun 1000 ute

A12 motor

Small race cam

Twin SU Carby's

Lowering blocks in back

Cut down front spring rubbers

12" chrome mags

In the next month or so I'm going to fit the front discs and a new m/cyl and also change the mag wheels to 15" x 8" 0 offset ones I've found. Then just enjoy it. I'll keep you all posted

Cheers

Looking clean Mikey.

There is a bit of talk about brakes on here at the moment,
If you get a chance to take some pics of the brakes when they are done, a few of us on here would be interested.

I've got some photos of my mates XXR 16 x 8 0 offset mags on there and the offset is good but wheel lock is a bit of a problem with hitting the caster arms. I tryed my other mates 14 x 7 +8 and they are really good and fits really nice so just got to see what I find out there and prob sell the little chrome 12" mags I've got on there atm. I'll keep you posted
lol at the guys in the back haha, the silver wheels look sweet

did you buy this from a young guy?

Ha ha perfect way to lower it with about 4 guys in the back ha ha

Yeah they are sweet, but he wouldnt sell them to me ha ha

The mags I want are arriving in mid august so I'll have to see what I can find otherwise I'll have to wait till then.

I bought it off a bloke in Laidley who hasnt had it for long. I've been researching and it used to be purple and I've seen it advertised on Boostcruising and Perforance forums too. The Bloke in Laidley just slapped the paint on to sell it. You know what they say, "Good from far but far from good"
do you know about otomoto? they import 2nd hand jap wheels occasionally they've got some nice wheels. they've got some hayashi streets on there at the moment *droool* haha

ha ha yeah I've heard about them, my makes are big with drifting and otomoto pop up alot. I know they are to die for. Problem is some cost more then what I paid for the ute ha ha
Mate I think you MIGHT have an A12GX motor there.

A few more pics would help to confirm but so far it looks like it is. Nice!
Ok mate, I'll take some more tomorrow. Whats the difference between a gx and a normal? I noticed the dissy"s in a difference palce to my a12 in my morris minor.
Awesome, I just googled it and it has more hp then standard a12's and are good for higher rpm. ha I'm stoked. I'll post some more photos tomorrow so evryone can see. Cheers for the insite.
Well it's almost certainly most of the top end of a GX motor. Rocker cover, Carbs, Dizzie position, inlet manifold. Even the wrap around fuel rail is the GX one so I'd be pretty impressed if the rest of the engine was a GX.

A12GX Engine Tech Wiki Datsun1200.com

I value them greatly but others probably won't. If it has the exhaust manifold and orginal air box the engine would be just about complete.

The speedway kids pay a fortune for the twin outlet exhaust and alot of people have sold them off for the quick (albeit short-lasted) financial gain. If yours does have one, try keep it with the motor it adds to it's value.

Nice engine. Let me know if you'd ever want to get rid of it. I have a spare, running A15 here to swap? ; ) haha

I've resorted to an A14 to keep me within the South Aus regulations.
Yeah i looked at the photos of the gx's and its definately one. Its still got the original exhaust manifold but not the filter box. It looks like a nice motor, going by previous forums on the net that I found of this ute, the motor has had a freshen up about 4 years ago. Ha an a15 sounds nice but I'll see how this motor goes for now. Was thinking about fitting my a12 from my morris minor, its got a massive cam in it, been told its over .300 and has double valve springs and alot shaven off the head. It almost idles like a 12a bp rotor ha ha
Yeah the block can only be distinguished by the water pipe at the front (and of course the dizzie placement) and going by that one pic up the top it does look like it has that fitting but the rest of the pipe has been shortened a bit.

I'm not sure what the .300 means for the cam but I reckon you'll find the little GX motor has a fair bit of poke, it was a pretty well sorted engine.

Anyways, glad to see another 1000 getting put back on the road again! Good luck with the build.
Hey is there anyone out there that would be able to tell me if my front apron is actually a 1200 one? I've been looking at a few photos of 1000's and mine is different. I have to re weld this one or buy a better one cause the tools tryed to cut out a spot for an intercoller.
The front apron looks like one off a KB10 or 1000 coupe.
yea looks KB10 to me...
Got some more photos of the ute and engine. Finished the floor pans and painted the engine bay and now just sorting out the wiring and hiding it inside the guard. Should look good when done.
