1812cc L16 bored to 86mm with NA16s cylinder head.
Just for reference Im starting this page to keep my data on the L16 Im building
Will have a much shorter than L series head its from the last line of the Z engine
which is an NA16S with closed kidney chambered instead of Z series hemi.
Unlike the Z and L this last L/Z based head has roller rockers in aluminium but
same inlet and exhaust pattern as the Z18et.
some weights for comparison
complete Z18et head = 15.5kg (Na should be same or just lighter)
L16 block = 37kg bored to 86mm 35kg.
(A12 blocks are 30kg so A15 should be around 5kg heavier)
sump and oil pickup 3kg
front timing bits, pulley, crankbolt, oilpump, chain, guides, waterpump etc 7kg
Lightened L18 crank 15.5kg - 2.5kg = 13kg
38mm stock vs 28.85mm comp pistons = -120gsm?
without flywheel and clutch the complete LNA16S will be 78kg
a similar A15 would in the same makeup would be 71kg
L18 Flywheel vs billet 11kg vs 5kg = -6kg
To go even lighter with the LNA hybrid will need gun drilled hollow camshaft
and finer detailed attention to knife edged crank but $$$ exxy for little gain.
78mm L18 crank x 86mm rb26dett pistons 30mm comp height milled to 29mm
L13 139.9mm length conrods
LNA RSR= 1.795
A15 RSR = 1.622
The block height of the L16 vs A15 is 207.85mm vs 205.1mm and I will shorten breather area
of rocker cover to remove another 1.5cm and overall engine will be 2cm taller than A15.
Will plumb breather from the back of rocker cover area at worst might have to use a bonnet
scoop from a Torana SLR which I have ready and drop the engine 4cm by removing front
tranverse leaf for coilovers and strengthening crossmember and run flatter batwinged sump.
