Misc Build Stuff on the KB10 and VB10

Hey,

Thought I'd start a post with some bits and pieces from the coupe and wagon builds,
both progressing (the wagon a little slower than the coupe) and hopefully I'll post up some bits and pieces from time to time.
Theres already quite a bit on the coupe over on 1200.com but I'll put all the new stuff on here.

I'll start with the swaybar thats just gone on the KB10, got the basic idea from Burt. Its a 120y bar with the ends cut off and slightly bent inwards to clear the tyres on full lock and also to line up with the mounts.

The setup has really improved the handling and I cant wait to get it out on the track to see how well it will affect times.
as advised by quite a few people I wont be putting one on the rear as you need the car a little softer in the rear to get the grip out of corners!

Next up i'll post about the "phantom type" diff that i'll be putting in

cheers

[nope hardest part was getting the right angle on the bar it took a few goes, and fabing up the mounts (thanks due to travis at Hotrod Factory who made my thoughts into steel reality) Ive asked him when he gets a spare moment to come up with prices on a kit but i would guesstimate it would be in the $400-$500 ballpark, expensive for a swaybar but cheap for a custom made bit of kit I reckon. If people want to get the swaybar cut it and tap the ends themselves then it would be a lot cheaper.

Also might base the next one on a 1200 swaybar as they are a little narrower in diameter and so a bit more road friendly.

how did you make the mountings? they look like factory aftermarket items

Nice work, first glance seems like a lot of extra stress to put on that skinny caster rod!...but thinking about it more, I guess its the only place it could go. Are the forward mounts just bolted through with a plate behind?
The forward mounts have one bolt through one of the bumper mounts and the other was sleeved through the chassis, it was sleeved to prevent it crushing when done up, probably over engineered but better safe than sorry.

yeh was a little concerned about the castor rod but most of the stress is back where it mounts to the lower wishbone and the shock absorber, which should be able to handle it.

I've seen three versions of swaybars and the only one that didnt use the castor rod was the one topgear constructed.
it was an really good design but complicated and difficult to reproduce, for me anyway!

That one is Burts off his race car

the one below is the topgear one

So on sat I decided that a CIG locker was going to solve my traction problems in the short term, went in well and gave some good grip through the first few corners then it worked a little too well

This photo was taken  on its maiden voyage after we tried a "hard" launch........BANG there goes the rear uni on the tailshaft   then a long walk back to workshop to grab the recovery vehicle. D'oh.

bang a new Uni in, 1/2 an hour, back on the track.... Proxies... yummy...
yeh the gearbox end Uni i think is a toyota unit so a bit more capable of handling the strain, gonna see if the tailshaft guys can beef up the rear one so theres less chance of it happening again!
