That's very sad to hear Derrick,

The Chassis Number sounds right to me, LB10 followed by six digits.
From that Chassis Number it has a build date between October 1968 and July 1969.

I did a write up on chassis numbers and placed it within the tab labled "1000 specs" up the top of the page if you were interested.

Did they give you any alternatives for registering it?

there is a few. i think i may try just the chassis number. i can try and find the previous owners registration. or do an out of province inspection that it will not pass. think i may have a loop hole tho. i also think the head gasket has gone it looks like its seeping oil from the head gasket. so prob a good think i did not spent money on insurance. i guess time to get my z on the road instead.

Good to hear you still have a few tricks up your sleeve.
If all else fails do you think it can be registered as an import?

it will still need the inspection.
as it turns out i just found out my buddy is friends with the people i got it off of (small world) and maybe they will still have it or the original owner they got it from is still alive.

So it won't pass the inspection, therefore cannot be registered?

Or it can't be registered period?
it can be with an inspection. i was hoping it to be easy.

here when u buy a car in alberta u need a simple inspection that it will pass with a good contact. but if u get one from anoter province like british columbia or saskatuwan. we need a out of province which is a pain and costly.

i bought the car in alberta was sold in alberta on dec 6 1969 but now its  not in the system either has the vin wrong or it got deleted so now i need the out of province . i was hoping it would be easy but its not anymore.

That number is taken from the body of the car not the build plate?
its on the pass side engine bay. also on the import stickers the owners manual and warranty booklet but there set as engine code and chassis code

That would have to be it then for sure. I'm not sure how tough your province inspection is but we have similar ones like that in Australia. Being such a simple car it doesn't take much to get it roadworthy unless there is rust.
i have yet to find out. i need to get my 300zx done to. there is rust on the fenders and one hole on the kick panel. but i may have found a guy that will do it with out looking at the car. or i may be able to find the old registry id be good.

my datsun only has the id tag and engine number but no numbers stamped in body any where so makes it hard for finding  parts as it doesnt have a build date
Mano1 the chassis number is normaly on the right hood ledge.
So on the passenger side for LHD and on the drivers side for RHD vehicles.
Has your engine bay been repainted?
It may be hard to read if it has a thick coat of paint covering it, as these numbers are only engraved into the car body.
Try to shine a torch across the panel as flat as you can get it, so the numbers create shadows and the panel lights up.

thanks bee ill check that out looking at the id plate  mine doesnt have have a year date on it if i find the numbers does that have anything to do with the year
Hey Mano,

http://www.datsun1000.com/PageView.asp?PageID=74

At the bottom of the page is a list of chassis numbers and the years they correspond to.

The KB10 info seems a bit ambiguous, so hopefully Ash (beetwenty) can double-check the books to make sure this is right.

I'm betting he sees this in his morning "quick Datsun check"
As from 1st January, 1970 all vehicles sold in Australia were fitted with a "compliance plate"

The date stamped into these plates refer to the month and year the vehicle arrived in Australia.
As a rule Two months should be deducted from the compliance date to calculate the production date.
So I would guess your car would be a 1969 model if it never had a compliance date.

Unfortunatley what I have listed on the page andrewzuku linked to is all the info I have on chassis numbers.
The only other way I know how to I.D. a year model is if the car has original paint, then you can use the guard indicators as a year I.D.. (short 1969 or long 1970).
If the paint is not original then you won't know if the guards are originaly from that car.

I have also listed chassis numbers for KB10 here. (im assuming your car is a KB10 from your user pic).

I havn't been in the 1000 scene all that long so maybe you could post some pics of your car and other 1000 owners might be able to narrow it down further.
