i've decided my plan is to get the gear, set it up for the thou ball joint.

because i dont think there will be much of a market for these custom arms im not getting carried away with them as soon as i finished doing my custom arms i'll look into a different upper and lower balljoints to use with standard arms and try make a jig or something so if anyone wants to do the conversion they can just send me there arms and knuckles to be customized.

mind you if people are interested in a set of these adjustable arms i will be happy to hook em up, i have to get a few shafts and balljoint plates run off anyway but that wont cost sweet fa rest is a breeze.

Just to let you know Neil years ago told me about the a15 vanette front end can be used in a 1000 if you reverse the stub axles basically to have the steering knuckles facing the back rather than the front. This would allow you to use the late vanette balljoints so what Im saying is you should at least focus on using vanette stub axles so you can use more common off the shelves balljoints and have free disc brakes to boot. I would even go as far as using the later vanette with the Z series engine which has a ventred front disc setup and same kind of suspension but much more common balljoints.

oh yea i remember reading that some on 1200.com, so the vanette stuff is fairly common?

Being the Mech. Eng. pleb that I am, I've been reading this thread with great gusto! The brainstorming, the theories, the practises, is truly inspiring.
Leith, Dave, Ash and especially Neil (props for proving a setup on blacktrack AND for being a Sandgroper!); I've learned shit loads from reading about ways to keep our beloved B10's rollin' well into the 21st century by modifying our, let's face it, "horseless carriage-esque" and obsolete front ends, but one thing keeps troubling me.
I keep wondering, "What would Jesus do?"
(Just to clarify, my reference is Ministry's "Jesus Built My Hotrod"
The "saviours" of making acessible shit fit, what do they use? What front ends are used on Slopers, 30-somethings coops, T-Buckets, etc to make them handle??
I fear that Torana bits are becoming unobtainable, thanks to the Aussie muscle car phenomenon, so what's left? Modified Falcon double wishbone? Mitsubishi L300?
I only rattle these two examples off from reading countless hotrod articles, but it does make me wonder...

My only advice about making two pieces fit that normaly wouldn't go with each other is this...

Let's say you have two parts that you want to make fit each other.
Your first step would be to determine which parts will need to be replaced more often and which parts will probably never need changing again.

If possible you should try to finish up with a standard off the shelf part as your replacable item (And as mentioned earlier this should be something you expect to find easily in the future) then do all your modifications to the part that is not likley to be changed again.
When the replacable part wears out you just bolt in a new part without needing to go through the headache of modifying everything again.

Obviously you will have sizes and limits to worry about so your replacable part should have some thought put into where it will be going and the job it has to do, as some parts will be unsuitable for the swap.
It dosn't always work out like this but that is the basic idea you should be aiming for.

regarding torana ball joints, there just gm mid sized metric ball joints and are used on shit loads of different models you can even buy a balljoint plate to fit them for the setup i want to use. i could be wrong but everything i've researched regarding gm ball joints points to this. i have to get a hold of one to do some measurements because all i can find on the internet is the taper size

i was trolling the internet and saw mini ball joints, they have a 7 degree taper on them and assume they'd be just as small as the thou ones. can anyone confirm if they're similar in size?

as for hot rods im not entirely sure, in usa they pretty well can do what ever. from what i gather they run modular control arm setups with small body coil over shocks.
what makes shit hard is all these gay rules australia has, look the wrong way and someone will sue you!

anyway im making some headway i guess, everyones input is much appreciated.

edit - just calculated off ashs measurement the thou ball joint is about 5.5 degrees taper can anyone confirm?
