The Latest Addition to the Family

I came across this little beauty almost a fortnight ago, but only took photos the other night.  Slack I know... I promise to do better next time!

I touched on her specs in my "SOS" post, but here it is in more detail:  '69 4dr sedan, 4spd manual, A15 running a DGV & 4-1 extractors.  She started life as an auto and still has all the linkages on the column, but the conversion is very dodgy i.e. engine & gearbox mounts don't inspire much confidence.  The diff has been locked as well and as fun as it may be, I will have to come out.  The suspension has been seriously lowered by resetting the front spring (of what I can tell) and home-made lowering blocks in the rear by (ahem!) square steel tubing.  Nevertheless, she does look badass slammed the way she is!

The body is fantastic, with rust only in replacable panels (boot lid, doors, fenders).  The interior shows her age, but the dashboard and crash pad are perfect!  No hacking or drilling evident, all electrics work, including the original radio.  The glovebox AND parcel shelf are perfect and inside the glvebox is the original service books and owners manual.  AWESOME!!  Oh yeah, even the rego plates are the originals.

She has one brand new LH front (fore) wheel cylinder now too.

When I picked her up, she was riding on 13" steelies shod with whitewalls, but unfortunately being so low, the fronts were scraping on the wheels arches every time a slight bump was driven over. Luckily I still had the 12's and whel trims I bought from Mal when I was toying with the idea of widening them for my Wag, so I pumped the tyres up, cleaned the rims with a wire brush and scotch-brite, gave them a lick of Wildfire Red, polished up the trims and but them on.  Other jobs she needed right away (besides the brakes) was replace the headlights (both lows were blown), replaced F & R LH indicator globes, re-wire and connect the reverse lights, top up both the gearbox and diff oils, seal up an exhaust leak in one of the joins in the extractors and tune the carby.  The rest will happen over time.

Now, the photos!  You'll have to excuse the poor lighting; they were taken in my new, yet to have power & lights hooked up.

I'll take some more photos soon, in particular the dash etc.

Nice work, It wasn't on Gumtree for long.. ha ha
I called him as soon as I saw it and ducked out straight away.  I offered him a grand, as it was still showing as unregistered on the DoT website at the time, which he accepted.  Someone offered him more after I left, but he was a decent kid and honoured our gentleman's agreement... You don't come across that very often!!  So if it was someone from here that missed out, at least you know she's found a good home.

Love to have an auto with an A12 with A13 capacity eg.  73mm -> 76mm bores.

Only thing is, where the hell would I find an auto to suit these days?!?   I'm guessing they've all been used as boat anchors after an auto to manual conversion was done...

They are exactly the same as the 1200 autos just the column shift is different and can be adapted to suit.

To be honest I'm still undecided what I should do with her Leith, but it won't be a daily as I have a company car.  I actually bought it as a parts car for my Wag, but she's too got to part out... I just don't have the heart!
Mrs DatsAmore has her manual license, but hasn't used 3 pedals since she did her driving test, which is why I'm thinking of converting it back to auto. That way, if I can convince Mrs DatsAmore, we'll have his n hers B10 for Sunday drives.

Dave, will a 1200 auto be alright behind the A15, or should I try and find one from a late Sunny?

3N71B should be easy enough to find
Bellhousing maybe not
People keep stealing them for gearbox conversions
Just what I was afraid of Neil. Then there's the selector and gear indicator that sits on top of the column... I may have the linkages and wiring, but that's about it.
Might be about time Mrs DatsAmore started driving stick again. After all, who'll drive the Wag home if we're out together in it and I... Er... Get a bit too merry?

Auto boxes are easy to find even with bellhousing so dont worry put an ad up on 1200.com and someone will help soon enough. Auto with a13 will be a treat for the missus and you on summer nights going for dinner or cruising the beach.
The Wagon can be your peppy toy when you want to take control and show the missus your hormonal differences
