Just some info

hey guys great forum bout time i found more of my kind lol

well as the title says i need some info i have searched on alot of other site but still unsure

i have a datsun 1000 wagon and want to do mods lol

i originally wanted to got a sr20det but now have become more aware that that can not happen and if if did it would majorly affect the drivability of the vehicle
so now my question is what else can i put in that makes good solid boosted power??
i have had thoughts of ca18det or a 13bt but still be within the QLD regulation (or restamping engines to pass)
i would like to put a bottle on this little beast so a strong engine will need to be built to withstand this that sid eof it doesnt worry me as i can build it just need to know wat will fit without wasting my time and money
all input is welcome bad or good im open to all sugestions

i have also thought that when i get this thing up and going i dont want to only be able to stop by hitting a power pole.
so what converions can be done to upgrade the front brakes?

i will be doing a hi ace diff convertion and hope this is not over kill so once again sugestions are not frown apon

at this stage this is all i can think of.

i know as a newbie im asking alot but any help would be much appreciated and no doubt once the build begins all will be put up on the projects page from start to finish

once agaain thank you all

is it a street car or race car?

This should answer your Question about engine rules.
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/pdf/NCOP3_Section_LA_Engine_01jan2011_v3.pdf

Im pertty sure the wagon is the only 1000 that will be legal for a 4AGZE as the wagon is 645kg.

I have seen pics of a G13B done before.
And A15 Turbo has been done.

CA18DET is not legal, CA18 Natural should be.
13BT is not legal.

One aspect of an engine swap to consider is gearbox size.
A 1000 is a very small car with a small interrior, so if you do a tunnel mod it will limit what little room you have inside the car.

Before you buy an engine I would suggest running it buy the engineer that will be issuing your blue tag.
That way you will know what needs to be done to get your car on the road and if the engine you choose will pass inspection.

Most brake swaps will require larger rims. Im sure some of the boys on here can steer you in the right direction for a brake swap.

it will be a street car
i have email the guys from maddat ( www.maddat.com )
to see if they can help me out
my boss has a 1200 with a sr20det in it but have rebaged the engine to a sr1600
so this could be a option and hes got the mod plates also
so yeah ill see what maddat says before i get too excited
i think i need to souce a engineer in regard to the tunnel size and what box i may choose
street car
car only weight's 650kgs a worked ca18de with gas would smoke most cars, if you want boost just turbocharge an a14 or a stroked a12

Mad dat said it might not be possible but are willing to give it a go lol if i send the car down and they do a custom fit...
hmmmm that sounds damm expencive lol
so maybe bak to option b a tuff ca18det "destroked"
ill keep you posted with what i go with still damm keen on the sr
I like the "destroked" idea as there is such a thing as a ca16 in the aussie exa, than if you build go the ca20 bottom end.

Is that just a ca20 crank in a ca16 bottom end? Any more details on this? Just out of interest.
Both my wagon and coupe rego papers show the tare weight as 711kg

Check yours... don't worry abouyt the factory weights being thrown around
Check with rego as to what THEY say it is
No use the whole ca20 block and crank as the block is taller, the only problem is alot of people shave the block as the timing belt will not fit ,shaving the block looses the cc,s you are trying to gain in stroke and only a small gain in bore. Some people have looked at trying to find timing belts off different models ect ect,atm im looking at a machinist who is cadding up a full replacement timing gear set up by reducing the cam gear with the crank gear by the correct ratio will give you the length needed to put the ca twin cam head on the ca20 bottom end without shaving blocks with a standard ca 16/18 timing belt. Also youll have to drill and tap for the twin cam belt tensioner. For rego youd have to either erase or restamp the ca20 part of the engine number.
