Planning to Do Engine Buiding

Hi,

I'm David from indonesia. I'm new to this forum. I'm planning to buy this Datsun B20 Pick up. Please help me identify this car whether this is really the B20 ? I need to know what car I'm having in order to avoid any mistake in buying the parts for future referrence.  I'm planning to rebuild the engine but I'd like to upgrade the engine performance. Can the engine up upgraded up to 200 RWHP ? If yes, can anyone out there give me the list of what I should do with the engine ?

I'm planning to use the car for daily driving only but I'd like to maintain driving comfortability. Any advice would be much appreciated. This is my first time using this car so I'm totally blind about this car. Awaiting for replies. Thanks a lot.

Hello and welcome, looks like a B20 to me,
you won't get that much HP out of a standard A10,(standard is 62hp)
if you change the engine to A12 or A14 or A15 will get more HP..
agree with dundee, dont know what your laws are where you live but maybe an engine conversion would be an idea

Full race A15 engines in race cars are struggling to get anywhere near 200hp & even if successfull, they would be totally undriveable as a street engine.

Engine life at peak power outputs is also much too short.
For this reason very expensibe engine parts are required so my personal recomendation is to fot a 1200 engine [pre 1974] in a good 'sports' state of tune & enjoy the beauty of a light car & a spirited engine. [The B20 is the lightest of any of the small Datsun models]
KB10GL, the car I always wanted.
Rotary 13B?
All you need is an a12 with good compression or 73->76mm overbore you will be surprised how fast they go with stock head with reuned inlet and just electronic ignition. The torque is so very nice that it pulls like a little train from top gear from 25kmh up.

The more you do to an A series the worse they are most times. Its a fine balance but the 1000 doesnt need much to make it go and 75-85hp A2 is all it needs. Its 615kg FFS!

Hi to All,

Thank you very much for the tips. I think I'm clear enough with above replies. Will try to purchase the car first and once I have started building the car and if I have any doubts, will try to come back.

@d: You were saying: " good compression or 73->76mm overbore ", does it mean that after over boring the compression, do I need to change the camshaft or just stick to the stock camshaft ? Kindly enlighten me. Thank you.
yep just stock camshaft heaps of torque and compression is just shaving the head on an angle from the non inlet exhaust side biased so valves and ports are slightly more angled. going from 73mm stock bore to 76mm gives you 1300cc.
