Datsun 1000 project car, gift from a mate :)

Looking great, just make sure the front is removable using some kind of time serts etc
Also if you can paint the intercooler matt black using that intercooler heat paint that actually dissipates heat better, I forget the type but will also hide that thing and make grille area and vents less clutteredand clean if you also paint the inner supports matt black.

Well after a painfull 6hours! Hilux diff is in!!
will post pics later on tonight. Looks monstrous under the little 1000 rear end
Axels are back and in the diff! 15's look huge on the 1000! haha

Should consider removing the wheel well at the rear use flat metal and just put a spacer saver or cheap thin 3 inch alloy front runner secured from underneath instead of above using a ford spare wheel securing bracket, bolt and big washer as factory just welded underneath.

Also what a the legalities concerning the non collapsible steering column?

Something about the 1000 4door looks so good on the rear roof section.

whats the deals with collapsible steering columns? i have never heard of any rule about this? please explain d!
i love my little datto from every angle!

i was actually thinking about removing the spare wheel tub! as i think its leaning towards the full drag car route.
full tubbed rear etc but who knows

engine and box are getting bolted back in this weekend and startingthe joyous task of wiring in the microtech! hopefully by next weekend it will be running!

collapsible steering only for engineering purposes in most states maybe QLD doesnt need them? either way would be awesome as a streeter, you have done so much already so keep at it, you aint far away now. The wheel well removed allows you to put a centre stinger exhaust and the spare in the boot is another alternative but even today some cars dont carry spares but that instant puncture foam aerosol stuff from what I heard.

Actually been looking at my nieces sedan and thinking would make an awesome tudor by moving the centre pillar back and extending the front doors and welding the left over at the back. I reckong the sedan rear section of the roof is just so much sexier than the normal tudors. Actually even the kb coupes doors are too short for a real coupe, the rear windows are so huge to accomodate the rear passengers unlike a Z which is a real 2 seater coupe.

I'd like to know more about this diff conversion
Hi Neil.

Basically the diff is a 1995 hilux lsd unit which has been cut down to the stock length of I think it was around 1180mm.
Got the shafts cut and re splined to suit. Also the diff mounts have been fabricated and welded using 50mm x 50mm rhs box tubing.
Using the standard 1000 leaf springs and datsun 1200 diff plates and hilux u bolts.
Was a bit of a mission getting it all it as I assembled it all on the floor then lifted it into the leaf spring hangers etc.
the rims and tyres are ford 15" x 6" I think with 195/60r15's but will be changing th
to 195/50r15's on the weekend.  As I have some semi slicks sitting around from my old turbo gti swift

wheel clearance between tyre and inner guard is about 3mm to that seam lip part inside the back of the wheel arch some 5-10 mm spacers will fix that as I will be running extended wheel nuts for andra regulations for jamboree.

Hope this all make sence

fonz.
