Ash.
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.

One of the things I love about owning a datsun 1000 is that it's dedicated to my Dad's memory. I have fond childhood memories of sitting on my Dad's lap and steering his 1000. I bought my Wag from Mal 2 months after Dad passed away and thinking back now, the Old Bugger's spirit must've been keeping an eye out for me when I was looking for an old car to do up, because I confess that I wasn't even considering a Thou' when I saw the ad!

Dad bought his '70 VB10 brand new and he loved that car. It was his daily for 15 years, until he gave it to my sister for her 1st car. She had it for 4 years, until she bought a new car and passed it onto my brother, who let it go into such a state of disrepair, that the cops were gobsmacked it was still on the road. (Cops: "Turn your car off please sir." Bro: "Okay, but can you please give me a push start when we're done? There's no starter motor anymore." I then inherited it in '96, which I swapped for parts to suit my 140Y at Datwreck.

I remember it was stolen from outside the Warwick pub when my sister had it. Dad was gutted. Every day he'd drive past the local constabulary, hoping they'd found it. I was with him during one of his drive-bys when I asked him, "You miss the Datto, don't ya Dad?"
His response was, "It's like someone's cut my fucking arm off Son."
Fortunately, it was recovered a week later at a carpark in the city. The cops reckon some drunkard stumbled out of the pub, wanted to go into the city and the easiest way was right there in the carpark. After all, a 5 cent piece was all that was needed to unlock and start the bloody thing! The car wasn't trashed or even thrashed. The only thing out of place was the broken beer glass in the back.

So my Datsun 1000 is my homage to my Dad, may he rest in peace. And knowing what he was like, he would have pissed his pants driving mine (and most likely would have blown the diff by now too!).

Driving my Wag always puts a smile on my face, but it puts a tear in my eye as well.
When the "D" hits your eye, like a txt smiley guy...
Great stuff Alan and thank you for sharing a very important part of your life.
For me the un-asuming character is what I love, you start of thinking theres
not much to them when you first lay eyes on them and most people who own
them initially think they are spartan and simple but as time goes by you find
all these lines and forms to its design that just grows on you.
If Nissan kept selling this car next to the 1200 as the budget car Im sure that
by 1972 they would have woken up to the A12 engine in a tudor would tear
the roots of many race tracks around the world.
What could have been re-writing history doesnt matter, what matters is these
little jiggas will outlive most datsun that followed it thanks to its strong, simple
and quality steel that makes driving it a raw and acquired taste.
During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act, Big Brother is watching you - George Orwell 'Most Jews do not like to admit it, but our god is Lucifer -- so I wasn't lying -- and we are his chosen people. Lucifer is very much alive.'"  Harold Rosenthal http://www.thetruthseeker.co.uk/?p=24688
One of the things I love about owning a datsun 1000 is all the thumbs up and approving smiles and waves from everyone.
When I took a thou over the pits a few years ago even the vehicle examiner said he wished he had one!
The 1000 family,
well happy festive season to all you B10 lovers...

it's a great hobby and life to have, from servicing Mr Bailey's 68 vb10 delux every year so he could go for his licence, till the day he rang and said he 'wouldn't be going for his licence this year' he asked if i knew anybody that would want to buy his car.. of course Mr Bailey, Me.. (he was 93 years old at the time,
to my Kb10 that was my daily lappo for about 15 years.. (joel or his mum killed it off)
to the friends that come and go,  and great mates that will be around forever, all thru the B10 community,

even flying to Adelaide with one of them to rescue a KB10 and a container full of 1000 junk to go with it..

to the people that make this life interesting, sheesh there is some scumbags out there... ha ha fortunately not too many of them in the 1000 world..

it's got to be a good thing when your driving along in your Z32, it's got the lot, 3lt V6 twin turbo, twin intercooled Quad cam 32v VVT abs 4ws, 332mm Endless rotors, Asso 17" forged wheels.. climate control, 220kw atw..blah blah...  a really nice clean and straight example of Nissans finest...
this thought cleared my mind... I'd rather be in my Thou..... sold the Z and back to 1000 life.. for me..

you gotta admit, It's Got the Lot....

so thanks to all you lot of B10 people, from a small to a massive part of the family.. Thanks, and have a happy and safe Chrissy...
Congratulations, Weekend1000, you are the winner of our X-mas comp 2013 .

Your entry won our comp as it was nice simple reason to love a 1000, and I'm sure all of us have experienced this while out in our 1000's.
