Thanks thou. I think it looks nuts! May have gone overboard  by telling my beater to do it as if it was his own car though, but at least I will only have to do it once. They have also down front end and the steering box in black but I haven't seen if they're gloss or satin. Anyone got any ideas for rims, only want 14" ?
Colour is mad! is it a datsun colour or else?

These wheels are my favorites by far atm and good sizes! and price!!!

different offset choices and normal wheelnuts possible

Also in silver but black on red with chrome lip is just crazy

Went and had a look today, front end and steering box in gloss black, against the metallic red....wow! That's mazda red big D from the current models but don't know the name of it. I just can't believe that it's so close to being at home again. Owned it for thirteen years and it's been off the road for eleven of them!

Well I have colour! First coat of clear and it will be getting blocked back and another coat of clear. So hopefully back together in a week or so.
Great great great great good job nice colour! Very similar to my vb though a tad sweeter and vibrant!

Hi all. Just a few more pcs. Had a sunny day in Melbourne for once so rolled her out in it to see how it looked. The photos don't do it justice, there's an amazing gold/orange pearl through it and in the sun . Now just has to have block it back and final clear coat then bolted back together.

Gday all. Just a few more pics with most panels back on. I'm going to start putting it back together this weekend.
hope your  alittle fella Dix...
thats a lotta holes in the dash.. is it a fighter plane??
Well hopefully it will go like a fighter jet but the dash wash butchered when I first bought it so I thought bugger it I'll put gauges. A mate had a 240z and there was the answer, the dash in them looks mad. The only thing I didn't like about mine is the stereo area it's a bit boxy but I will try to soften it up a bit. I'm 5'10 and I think that's about half an inch over the height limit!

Hello everyone. A quick update on progress, got most of the front end complete now I got the new shocks in. Just a few bits left to do but mainly cosmetic. I decided to sound deaden the cab but only floor and back panel, want to here the engine noise! I'm still waiting for a few bits from the panel shop for final assembly but that will give me time to get new glass for it. Will get more pics up as progress moves along.
Hi all, I've been trying to sort out the interior and at least have solved the seat problem, Mercedes Benz mb1900 van seats. They have a very short depth and are comfy with a re trim should be good. I have used my wagon instruments that had a dash pad which I couldn't use so I shaped one in lite weight signage plastic and trimmed in black vinyl I just need to fit a trim to the front to cover vinyl join. I got over confident with the pad and thought I would have a go at a centre console and went a bit over board but should come at alright. I used the 3mm light weight plastic signage card on tho as well and am in the process of fibre glassing them. The plastic is great to shape with a heat gun and holds the shape with no movement. Anyway back out to the garage I think the fibreglass is ready to sand.

G'day all. Just thought I'd put my rims up to see what you guys think! I've got three of them done and will finish the last one when my fingers heal after 12 hours of sanding and polishing, no fun but very rewarding when you see the result. The rims are 14x6 and 14x7 globes.I've got heaps done but still waiting on a few bits from panel beater that I need to get the car looking complete. Got the motor and 5 speed dummied and just modifying box mount so it's finally taking shape bit by bit.
One thing is it's bloody hard to find good performance tyres for 14" rims, any suggestions for nice grippy ones for a lightweight ?

Hi all, finally got my front panel back from painter, really love the look of the 1000's without a bumper so that's how it will stay. Also got stuck into polishing the GX twin carbs and manifold but don't think I will worry about doing the body of them, they don't look to bad as is......for now.
Looking very nice Dix. Well done.

How long off are you do you think to having her on the road? Cant wait to see it in the flesh.

Thinking All Jap day at Como park next year is going to have a great turn out of Thous.
Thanks mate, let me know the date and I will aim for it! No real time frame but I'm getting a bit impatient now just want it. I can't rush as I want to do it properly but will be dropping motor off for a freshen up in 3 weeks so hopefully by Xmas it will be running but a long way to go before that. You always hear about people taking cars off the road for a few months to restore and it then turns into years and I'm no exception.
You'll get there! I think everyone knows how you feel too. I did the same, took mine off for 6 months with the plan for a freashen up, the thing ended up stripped after finding rust everywhere, and now its 3 years on and it's still in the shed waiting for money and a game plan.

Yours is looking great, well worth taking your time for the last touches too. From memory Jap day is mid Feb?... Recon its a pretty good time to aim for if you dont crack christmas.

All the best.

Hi all. Was going through some pics and found these of my ute not long after I got it. It was white the I decided to give it a tart up with orange. I guess that's why I got it done properly this time....lol. I didn't remember it being so rough but the pics say it all.
Come a long way that's for sure
