Ca conversion

Hey guys became a member ages ago then kinda fell off the map but now I'm back and I'm starting to think of a ca in my 1000 ute would any of you know if a ca16 will bolt up to a ca18 rwd gearbox ?
I know just about everything else is the same I'm thinking ca16det should be relatively cheap build as ca18 stuff is still fairly redaly available.
Any help / ideas would be greatly appreciated cheers Aaron.
The ca series of motors are fairly punchy and perform really well in these light cars.

The biggest issue you will face with a ca conversion is the height available under the bonnet.

The 1000 is a fair bit shorter in the engine bay than a 1200, so you may run into issues there, although Im pretty sure that a ca18 into a 1000 has been done before.

I dont know about the gearbox bolting up, but it would sound reasonable that they do.

D would be the man to pester about this. He seems to know everything about oddball motors and combos.

A few people have done it now, even a race car. all things, gearboxes etc between a ca16 and ca18 interchange, they fit nicely, little room left over but quite a compact motor once the sump is sorted to go over the crossmember.

You have to consider the following too for engineering

column for steering needs to be adjustable so need another column
brakes upgraded
body should not flex beyond a certain point
emissions must be retained (very messy)
cat converter also must be used
and a few other things Ive missed but unless its a race car
the CA is not a clean looking install compared to a twin cam
Mazda head on a bored out A15 which skips most things above
but needs a good box to handle the power

Hey thanks guys.
I already have disc upgrade on the front and am sourcing a new column I have gotten around the emissions before so shouldn't be too much of a drama there.
Guessing ill have to notch out the sump to fit it
i was going to run with the supercharged a14 but there's no way it will fit under the bonnet unless I change charger and go blow through.
emissions is quite a challenge with the CA18DET theres quite alot of plumbing and sensors everywhere

In the UK the 8v sohc head with boost make more torque than the det
powerwise the det has a 5-10% advantage over 6000rpm

not much in it but something to consider as with forced induction even 8v head like the ca20e
can flow and make excellent tq and hp. The inlet valves on the sohc head are 42mm inlets
and 35mm exhaust very close to the L series.

Either way we have options gallore

is there another pic of that supercharged setup?
looks nice! the other option would be to feed that charger with a sidedraft carb of some kind
like an SU carb or couple of bike carbs

This is the other option lol
there where 2 with v8s in the past the jap one is still cruising in shows

It's a shame you can't run the A14 with that charger, looks tough as...you gonna sell it??? I know a nice little red ute that that would look right at home in!
nice looking setup! and found you a buyer above

Haha maybe if I can't get my hands on the parts I need for this ca idea I've had
other wise ill rework it to fit under bonnet
