b20 daily driver build, 14x8s , sr20det, air con coming soon haha

hey guys.
new to the forum.
had a quick browse. seems to be full of some rad dudes who can provide me with all the info I'll need.

I'm nath. 21 living in NSW.
thought I'd make a build thread to keep track of things and gain Information from people who have done it before.
my 7th Datsun.. just a daily driver build.
(currently daily driving a ca18det 120y sleeper, weekend driving an itb sr20 1200 coupe)

now Its fairly simple.
a12 block, bored,brand new a14 h75 head,twin 40 Webber's... I'm no a-series fan..but it'll do until it throws a leg.

currently still piecing it together . just aqquired all my glass from a donor ute and a front window and stainless trim from a sedan.

some photos.

^cute little motor

^sitting with My coupe

engine still out, mocking up front end.

^hako seats for it

NOS front parker lenses, front window rubber, blinker rear view mirror arrived today.

will update regularly with questions regarding the chassis.
I have a disc brake front end for it also that I'll gather some info on choosing the right master cylinder.

some photos of my coupé that may be recognised getting around NSW.
(itb sr20,Cage, custom rack n pinion, lcas etc etc, I'll stay focused on the 1000 in this build thread unless asked for info)

why n/a ? . built the car while on my P's so couldn't drive turbo.

look forward to meeting some of you guys along the way of the build.
cheers.
until next update
Welcome Nath, good to see another ute on the road to recovery. I've gotta say that one of yours looks pretty bloody tough! Ride height, rims, colour all look great and those seats are very nice. The a series really look nice in the bay but down the track the twincam could be the option as you obviously like power!
subscribed! awesome choices of cars

is the 1200 a ve head? any info, vids or pic links is appreciated, its the best 1200 coupe Ive seen and Ive seen many GX and GX mockups but yours is off the scales!

The ute with a series will not throw a leg, A series are crazy strong motors!
If you get tired of the ohv you can go twin cam head for very cheap in the future.

+1 for that Coupe...

where do I get some seats like that...

welcome and enjoy..
I saw your coupe at the all jap car show a few weeks ago.
It was my favourite car at the show. Very well done.

It seems your new B20 is in good hands, I also await your progress updates.

Hey Nath,

Amazing stuff! Another one who is very excited to this the progress of this.

What are the specs of the MKII's you have on it?

Also, where'd you find the front lenses? Yahoo Auctions Japan?

Cheers,

Stu
Hey Nath
Love the ute mate, I'm very jealous. Has anything been done to fit those wheels under her?

You sure do know how to style a Datto.
GTi-t KB10
hey guys.
Cheers for the kind words.
been flat out working on my 120y to sell it so not much to update on the 1000

made the lca Camber blocks.
and flipped front leafs

aqquired a disc front to refurb or just use the mount from

so I woke up this morning to a tag on facebook for a turbo a series for sale with a blown head gasket.
no specs on the motor. removed from a ute specs unknown.
I immediately contacted the guy and pay for it.
picked it up hoping to just throw the turbo setup onto my current motor.

upon closer Inspection .
a15 g34 block
bored
massive cam, valve springs
aerodynamics turbo .43 front .64 rear
2.25 dump
32 36 webber
and the best part.
a 5 speed!

the price I paid.. $550 for the lot. I think I got the deal of the century haha.
so change of plans getting the head serviced and putting the a15 in the ute instead.

turbo setup will fit nicely . required a new j pipe to be made to slip under the control arm.
will finish piping up for it in the next few weeks abd cut a separate exhuast tunnel for maximum ground clearance.
prob use a swift radaitor or civic half rad and run a xr6 cooler or a side mount silvia cooler next to the rad.

diff is a shortned h165 to suit the wheels.
rail lips bashed flat and seam welded.
14x7.5 -6 up front
14x8 -12 on rear.

will most likely convert it to rack n pinion same as my coupe as id like to center the steering wheel with the seats, dislike the offset steering wheel.

front bars at  the chromers atm

few questions:
what rear screen seal rubber fits?
dash pad.. to weld up the holes and paint it silver again.
or to wrap the top in black vinyl like original ? anyone done it themselves before that could shed some light on what material they used would be much appreciated.

this also means my motor is for sale
 early a12 block
bored
h75 head
brand new exedy clutch
brand new rear main and spigot bush
4 spd
twin 40mm Webbers
asking 1500 for the lot.
550 for all that! score of the century!

Edited what ever glitch happened then with the coding visible haha
Nath, I made my own dash pad from fibreglass, then glued vinyl over the top.

I had never done anything with fibreglass before and my one turned out fine.
If you are willing to put in the time you will be happy you did.

Page 5 of my build diary has all the steps i took to make mine.

These guys have a listing for a rear screen seal. (But I can not confirm the fit, as I have never heard of anyone using one of these)

Hey welcome there!

That is a really tough looking ute you've got there. Good score on the a15 turbo and 5 speed what a steal!

I really like the styles of your cars, they will be an inspiration for my vb10. I just got some starsharks with similar offset although mine are 13s.

Did you have problems with rubbing on the front?
Are the rims on your coupe 13 inch?

Matt
I have a factory dash per from my wagon as well as the the silver trims. The pad itself isn't that flash but metal substrate is good so can be reco easily, trims are in vgc. Let me know and I will get a pic off to you.
far out that is awesome, i love the style!

a mate showed me your stuff on instagram yesterday, glad youre sharing with the other datsun thousand nutters on here

and as d said, the little a bangers are tough, i have a mate making over ridiculous kw at the wheels from his little a12 efi e85 turbo ipra race car. relatively stock internals too.

im glad ive kept my wagon tucked away to be inspired by things like this

(Yes I could have mounted it 10mm higher but it would require further modding to the pedal box, and my wheels wont foul it anyway)

Love those Kameari seats. Did you find them in aus or import them?
