Rack it, and column

OK Datsun smart pants

Who has fitted a collapsable column and a steering rack conversion to their 1000's ?
What did you use ?
Is it finished?
Did it work?
pics pics pics ?
If we dont have the info you need...

Try getting in touch with Nathan Peta, Ken Oath Kustoms.

On here he is... Not Even.
But his profile hasnt been logged into for ages, so maybe a PM as it would prompt an email alert.

I believe he was doing a steering rack conversion to his 1000 ute.
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
Doing one atm

More info on my build thread.

I can take more photos if you need, but it's mostly about taking heaps of measurements and planning it out thoughly.
I managed to get the steering rod ball joint inline with the LCA pivot point and the tie rod end ball joint in line with the LCA ball joint. This allows for 0 bump steer while steering straight ahead (as there is no pulling/pushing on the steering) and an increasing amount as more lock is applied. This would still be minimal and less then most production cars.
Cheers
Luke
Spent some time in both of those threads previously
One Corolla and one Starlet... but no specifics of the actual models of vehicle or completed setups.
Not sure on the front rac setup though Luke with an A series as theres not much room for a sump
And while I've wanted to do a dry sump setup for awhile.. .and already have pan , pump etc. I'm starting this build off easy and will improve it once everything works.
Then other pics show it rear mounted... so not sure where your at with this.

Only at the gathering parts stage atm... honestly I've never had any issues with the old steering box setup on my racecars
But always looking for a better mouse trap (less joints to fail)
I wonder if the unisteer ones would work?

I have often wondered what would be involved in a complete steering assembly from a roadster into a 1000.

Wheelbase is same to the mm and from memory track width is within 10mm.

Would be a good starting point for stiffer front everything.

I guess the best thing to do is actually finish the rest of the front then look for a rack
I'll be running longer lower control arms and custom tubular uppers as I want to change the balljoint setup to use something more readily available
Also I need to increase the track by about... 4-6"
Still haven't decided up uprights either.
Ash, the Roadster front end is as heavy as the bluebird 411 stuff and virtually the same bar disc brake setup
The later vanette is very similar too 78-87 I think and Neil if those Mustang and other Murican A arms could
fit youd save alot of trouble and moneys but luckily only A arms are at the top while the bottom is a single
units which could probably be from something aftermarket and adjustable.
You could run Mazda series 5 onwards alloy units on sleeved original uprights for that 114.3mm x 5 stud pattern
or maybe some other alloy upright with the mustang aftermarket tubular A arms
