Does anyone have a diagram for the Coupe?

I'd like to get the shape right if I can, otherwise I have to sorta wing it from photos.
Definitely Chris or Dodgeman(at)bigpond.com will have pics of the KB10 he is the KB Ten Master

Great work as always Andrew.
Are they available any bigger/higher res? Ive been looking into rapid prototyping small custom shells for my Losi micro RCs.
So far I havent found a good plan set to model off, and it was difficult trying to line up photos...these would be perfect!
Imagine tearing up the kitchen lino in custom a drift spec 1k....

Hey Wurzel,

I based them off the blueprints in the 1000 Specs page on this site.

Unfortunately I haven't made any higher resolution versions. These were done pixel-by-pixel using DPaint IV on an Amiga 600 (using an emulator).

I'm putting all of my pixel cars here.

Andrew
Wow are there bigger scans of those specs in existence?
Thats great havent seen these ones before and I've been looking for decent plans for ages.

Edit:
PS:Wait , what..? You used an Amiga!!??!?
Yeah, We scanned and re-typed all that info from Ash's stash of datto books. I'll find them and re-scan them in higher resolution.

And yes, I use an Amiga (via the WinUAE emulator) to do pixel art. I've never found a paint program on the PC anywhere near as good as DPaint IV from back in 1991.

It's what all the game developers used to use back in the day for graphics. Think "Monkey Island".

Also, what software are you using to model with? I used to use TrueSpace, but have recently switched to Blender.
I'm still learning the interface, and decided to give a B10 a go. Here's as far as I got with it...

300dpi Blueprints uploaded (and now on the Downloads page too)

Fantastic!
I know what ill be doing these holidays

I mostly use a combination of Modo and Rhinoceros.
Modo for quick, box-models and nice organic/sculpted forms (mostly jewellery), Rhino for hard edge, technical stuff.
Ive recently purchased a great little program (still under development) called Groboto, crazy real-time boolean editing.

I use Shapeways for rapid prototyping...the costs arent too bad if you order a heap at a time and dont mind waiting a month or so, havent gone public with my designs yet, but getting close!

I reckon Ill give Modo a shot with these, problem is, I always get too bogged down in the details, but If I keep in mind its for a RC shell...maybe even print stickers for the grill etc... might just get it done

Thanks again Andrew, will post results here, though sadly, probably not in time for the xmas comp
Coupe Added
Hey thats my coupe! same colour but now only around the floor as its brittish racing green now.

I love the lineart its like Michael Angelo prototype drawing appreciation European Art students
but of datsuns and other lesser Japanese cars

Can you guys recommend a 3d package where I can draw stuff in illustrator (due to simplicity)
and then somehow convert it to 3d or just better go straight to 3d? Im not keen on AutoCad or
complicated drawing packages like that. Hear Rhino is good but havent kept up on the latest.

Hey D,

You may need to go straight to 3D (although a lot of 3D packages can import illustrator drawings as 2D shapes).

Unfortunately there's not really any easy way to make things in 3D. It took me a few years to really learn it properly - although that was with "trueSpace SE" way before YouTube

My experience has been: the easier something is to use, the less control you have with it.

I've chosen Blender because it's open source and free. I learnt by watching videos from: blendtuts.org

You might have some luck with Google Sketchup though (also free). From what I've seen, that's a fair bit easier to use without too much of a learning curve.

Andrew
I'm not really one to ask as I have really learned in a vacumn. IE self-taught off youtube and didnt know anyone else that was doing it. Just grabed the first couple of apps that were reccomended and went from there.
It depends what you want to do, like I said Rhino and Modo approach 3d moddeling from different different directions, Rhino is taking something solid and making it smooth, Modo Starts with it smooth and makes it solid...if that makes sense, I use either or a combination depending on the design.

I usually always end up in Rhino as it is the most powerful at technical stuff/ file reading/formatting/exporting different kinds of files, but I did it the hard way without peers in the area.... it has taken me years, hours of youtube tutorials, perserverance... and I still learn something new every time I open both programs. I still dont have the first clue about rendering!!
That said, I love it, its like a never-ending jigsaw puzzle, its my mental gym

some of the programs are absolutely nuts...Zbrush for instance is like sculpting incredible detail out of thin air, but the interface is bizzare...as one person put it to me, it makes more sense if you dont know anything about 3d..as is true what Andrew says about having control.

I have heard good things about Blender...and hey its free with loads of tutorials...cant go wrong there as a starting point imo.
duly noted guys, I know how to draw by hand, paint, guage and airbrush Im old but love to get into 3d and CNC one day just for a hobby as I know CNC is not far away from the everyday home. How many AY heads do you want fellas? just bring the alloy Ill do the rest

Solidworks for the win D, if you want to CNC stuff...
it's very addictive... (you have been warned!!!...lol )
yea solid works is the go if you want to get serious, i used it for 3d presentations at a drafting company i worked for. gives you cut lists and everything pretty sweet program and yea it is addictive

Pixel cars look cool Andrew.
Datsun 1000's look cool in any form.
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
I've updated the cars to include 3/4 views.

I created this little javascript app on my site to rotate and reshade the cars.

You can view all the cars and rotate them in the Thumbnail View with the buttons on top, or you can choose them from the drop-down lists in the Pixel Car Shader:

This can be very handy when you're trying to decide on a colour to paint your car

You can choose from the colour presets on the bottom, or create your own by clicking on the hex code in the top-right.

Note: You need a browser that supports HTML5 (like FireFox).

The car is blurry in Chrome and Internet Explorer because they ignore commands for "nearest-neighbor" (sharp) image resizing, and instead try to use "bicubic interpolation".
