Advice on parting out 4Door Sedan

So I bought a 4 door sedan the other day.
The main intention was to keep most of the good bits for my Wagon, but noiw has kinda turned into a learning exercise for both me and my 11 yo stepson. After buying him his own cheapy toolkit from Bunnings, I told him if he helps me strip it we can put some of the unneeded parts on eBay and he will get 50% of the proceeds.

Now normally I would offer the parts at offer here or D1200 first but I hope in this instance some of you will unterstand that my stepson has never picked up a screwdriver before and is really getting into me more than I excpected the average modern childs attention span would allow. Plus it would be good to make a few bucks back off wehat I paid for it.

That said there will be parts Im not sure what to do with...some of them are not worth selling...some of them I cant use on a wagon. Those bits im open to requests on.
So far its things like, Door Cards,
rear door hinges and or glass/ winder mechanisms, little bits of trim like the little headliner bits on the rear pillars and the headliner itself (1 little tear) Seat upholstery is trashed but the frame is ok...and the shell (some minor front end damage) itself If no one wants these they will go to the tip.I d rather give stuff to a home thatn throw out anything Datsun, but kinda need to get this out of my driveway at the same time.

But the real question is how much to pull apart?
I mean am I better selling or giving away the whole door even tho the skin is rusty or completely dismantiling the mechanisms/glass from it and selling them individually?
Same with an a10 here...sell complete or seperate bits like carby and manifold?
Maybe some of you might even end up wanting this stuff let me re-iterate that im not doing this for profit, but Id be interested to hear your thoughts on what you would do...

Oh and let me know if you want any of this non-saleable stuff I will put up a giveway list once ive sorted it all.
With the shell if the parts are good cut and keep the:

Spare wheel tub
Battery tray
Area around the brake booster
Front stonegaurd/apron
Mabe the windscreen corners(?)
Trans tunnel(?)

You should experiment with a 2 inch chop to the roof and see how it looks.

But the real question is how much to pull apart?

That's up to you really, in most cases it is better to wreck the parts and sell the smaller bits as doors can be too bulky and costly to freight.

A10 you should sell as a whole unit. I have gotten most of mine for free, but that runner on d1200.com sold for $84.00 to a local buyer.

I think generally you just sit and wait until someone wants something. But you won't ever know what people are looking for until you list them for sale.

I would be interested in:
Diff centre/assembly.
Underdash Shelf
Rear Seat (to upholster)
Heater assembly.
Maybe the A10.

Having said that, I am so mega broke at the moment I wouldn't be ready to pay for weeks maybe months, whats your timescale?

Here are the parts how I see it (many are dependant on quality so I guess this is more a hot-items list).

Good Money (condition good):

Dash Cluster
Diff & Axle
Engine and GB
Dash Pad
Hubcaps
Indicator stalk (not sloppy)
Original Radio + clarion speaker
Underdash Shelf
Chrome Winders & handles (handles if it's a standard series).
Deluxe Handles (quite hard to find)
Ignition barrel + key (not sloppy I'd pay good money)
Door Locks + Key
Rubber Bumpstops (all round)

Okay Money:
Mirrors
Doors
Heater
Speedo Cable
Rear Seat
Fuel Tank
Spare Wheel Tub
Front fixed Seats (member here wants some for his b20)
Battery tray
Glass and chrome trim
Brake cylinder
Electrical switches (lights, washer button and bracket)
Seat Belts

Peanuts:
Carpet
Small odds and ends
Pedals
Ashtray
Fuel Flap
Sun Visors

The list goes on but that's all I can come up with at the moment.

Chris

Any pic ?????
Thanks heaps for that Chris gives me a much better idea on how to go about it all, for that, the rear seat is yours gratis...(In the hopes you will be in Melbourne sometime this year to pick it up?) though it is pretty trashed
Ill see what else on that list I can help you with, might keep this diff but have a 145 out of a 1200 sedan I was thinking of selling complete?
But yeh, I hear you on the finacial shituation, every bit counts at the moment.

haha I was totally thinking about doing a chop before I got rid of it!

It sems a pity to cut the crap out of the shell, apart from a bump thats mangled the right castor rod mount, and rust in the quater panels and doors...the rest of the shell is in pretty good condition from what Ive seen

Like I said most of the stuff I can use for my car I will be keeping as spare...or replacement...sorry thou ute, they are in really bad of condition anyway if thats any consolation
(I want to try the LED ones I put a link to in the subsitute parts thread...if they werk, then we can all have new ones! Looked at mini minor ones the other day...right length, but about 30mm too high!)

It does have the original radio and speaker however! willing to consider trading something for the missing black volume knob to make it complete
Once I tally up it all and decide what to do with it all ill get some pics
thats alright thought i'd ask, be good to see these led's you've got in mind

I completely forgot lights, badges, grill etc.

Sounds like you got it for cheap though so good work!
Hey matey I'm interested in the a10, can't really tell if you are selling any parts here first or not? Are the seatbelts any good?
You might find you pull off everything and only a couple bits sell. Lots of things will sit on ebay week after week with no one interested then suddenly have a bid, but it wont be worth it in the end. If you can advertise all the bits and then pull them as they are wanted is the best way. Otherwise hold on to everything you can fit in the shed haha. These cars are still around and don't fetch much money but everything is worth holding onto.
Cheers
Hey Wurzel,

It's a bit of a long shot but... Do you have the original cigarette lighter? "CL" printed on the lighter.

Also when you are considering what parts to keep, the cross rod is worth something even if it's not in great condition. It is one of those impossible parts to get.
A spare cross rod can be reconditioned without taking your 1000 off the road.
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
I would be keen on the rear quarters if they are not rusted out.

i need to replace the lower 3-4" of both my rear quarters and at this stage the only options i have are ones that are less than my crappy ones, but still crappy.

I appreciate that cutting out panels is much more labourious, so a no is fine, but if its going to a young fella keen on learning then i dont mind paying for your efforts.

I too would be keen on a few odds and ends, and rather than send it to the tip, ill take off you hands any left over bits and pirces.

Like b22twenty said, things like cross rods and such are good to ahve as spares.

If you put up a photo of the car, then people can put dibs on what they want so you can pull off those bits first.

Had another look at it this arvo..rear quaters are rusting at the bottom  and no ciggie lighter

Had a look on ebay and looks like that bloke from SA is doing the same thing...so might just sit on the selling part for a while, . His prices are pretty cheap for the smaller more common parts which might just as well see them go to good homes than go through the hassle of eBaying the miscellanious stuff.

So far, to give away to anyones in Melbs and wants the front seats or rear doors feel free to drop by and take them. Theres onlty a few dings in one but bugger all rust in both. Interstate peeps are welcome to them but I'm on public transport at the moment so I cant really go that far outta my way to get them to you.

Anyone interested in the headlining? it has a small thumbnail size tear in it...but apart from that looks pretty good.

Finally... got any tips on removing windscreens to keep the glass and chrome bezel intact?

Pics to come
I'm after the "Datsun" badges on the front fenders aboe the wheels and fender mounted mirrors if you have it?

Thanks!
Kent do you keep an eye on the australian eBay. There have been a heap of those badges up for sale recently.
Well at least six pieces in the last 3 or 4 months.
No badges apart from yet another fine example of a busted and incomplete boot one..

Do the 4 doors differ much from the 2 doors in dimensions and parts ... apart from the obvious door difference?
Doors, c pillar......that's all I can think of. I guess the obvious one is the body
Thanks, Chris.

I'll be checking Ebay AU more often. Do send me an email if you see anything!
hey wurzel, i am super keen on the front seats! what colour are they? and are they completely ripped to shreds? ALSO good to hear you are getting the little guy into dattos early, a 1000 will look like it's from outer space once he is older and new cars keep rolling out the factory. cheers.
