Any progress ?

Got any DOHC heads laying about ?
Not much of an update. Still waiting to get the plate copied. They guy has had a breakdown and is working on repairs.

Mazda B6 heads are easy to find. there are plenty of NA MX5s about, Mazda 323s, Ford lasers, mazda familias,

thats just a few.

im at work so guntree is confused about where to look right now so that doesent help.

Last time a was looking, i found half a dozen wrecking in perth.

if you get the 98-99 ford laser head, you get roller rockers with it was well!
I like the sohc 16v heads with roller rockers
very narrow design and reminds me of my
suzuki g16b engine in my carry van.
Factory 125hp but with headers, bigger TB
and aftermarket camshaft 144hp at 7400rpm
and that was a non roller rocker head just
tipped finger followers so the Mazda ford items
and also some Hyundais? would be even better
as the suzuki engine bore was 75mm max 77.25mm
while an A15 will easily take 78mm which is
exact bore of the Mazda engine heads we can use.
Rob said to me the 8v soch mazda heads revved
around 9000rpm in speedway using the A15
bottom end with Mazda pistons and bike carbs.
Better alternative than an AY head

I'm trying to stick with a 73mm A12 bore
Might be pushing my luck
You are safe as  Rob used the A12 with the festiva 8v head on stock bores
Its the B3 head so the beauty of the B series is they had so many bores sizes!

Cylinder bore

680 mm (2.68 in)
71.0 mm (2.80 in)
78.0 mm (3.07 in)
83.0 mm (3.27 in)

B3[edit]

Mazda B3E
1.3 L (1,324 cc) B3 – (71.0×83.6 mm). It was available in SOHC variants and was found in the Kia-built 1988–1993 Ford Festiva, the 1987–1989 Mazda Familia and its derivatives, as well as the Mazda 121 (also known as Autozam Revue) (54 hp and 72 hp version), and the 1987–1989 Ford Laser, and 1994–1997 Ford Aspire. Later variants were used in the Mazda Demio microcar as late as 1999.
Fuel Injected Engine: Horsepower: 63 hp (47 kW) at 5000 rpm Torque: 73 lb⋅ft (99 N⋅m) at 3000 rpm
Carbureted Engine: Horsepower: 58 hp (43 kW)
Later versions (Mazda 323 91-98 etc.) produced 73 hp (54 kW) at 5500 rpm, and 80 lb⋅ft (110 N⋅m) of torque at 4000 rpm[2]

1988–2000 Ford Festiva/Mazda 121
1985– Kia Pride
Autozam Revue/Mazda 121
1986-1989 Mazda Familia/323
1995-1999 Mazda Demio
1994-1997 Ford Aspire/Kia Avella
1987-1989 Ford Laser
1991-1993 Sao Penza
2000-2005 Kia Rio

Only SOHC and 8 valves though
Ill keep an eye out for you neil.

I want to get a spare head as well so ill keep an eye out.

mazparts in Midvale are a good source though.

I have also found  that the astina forums and MX5 forums are a good source of parts.
Dont mention what you are doing cause they get all funny about it.
True but the Z series is the one after the B series and has a 16v twin cam head
for smaller bores instead of sohc 8v, the z5 most is just an update to the B series
for pollution and some high end B series engine builders have been moving to
these heads due to the Bike like design ports, chamber design and lighter cams

hmm just had a look at that.

Could be an updgrade for the future - finish what i have first!

The wiki entry talks about a timing chain rather than a belt. This makes it hard and potentially renders the currne adaptor plate un-useable.

Worth looking at, but im planning on just getting the head smoothed out and cleaned up as I want to force feed it.
For NA, the Z-series head may be a good upgrade, but for boost it wont matter much.
actually chain drives the older single pulley head
not the twin pulley head, the single pullye head
was only temporary for economy models much
like the toyota MZ v6 engines, the z5 head is
all belt driven due to using twin pulleys.
The pulleys are tiny vsB series so saves more
room in the A series setup but like you said
NA is best for this engine and you best finish
yours with what you have as squeezing the
last 5% using this head is not worthwhile.

I know you have a lot gong on Rubes... but any progress ?
Not much I'm afraid Neil. I've had the adaptor plate drawn up. Still to have the pulley done.
Car is painted and ready to go together.

I'm now just getting on top of my chore list at home and uni finishes in a few weeks.
then Tuesday will have a build thread update with pics...
then Nooooool wil start his build thread with pics..
Funny guy Mick... funny guy
