Datsun 1000 mechanicals into 1949 Ford Prefect

Thought i'd put up some pics for anyone who is interested, the original flathead engine only produced 10 HP and was flat out at 80klh so i picked up a wrecked ex speedway Daddo and have been modifying everything to make it all fit, just about everything was stuffed so i've had to aquire a lot of new bits which was a challenge in itself it's easier to get 1949 Prefect bits than 67 Datsun, I had a bit of luck though and found the engine is a 1200 so the old girl should go a lot better with 69 HP.

Love the swap Pedro.

Similar to some cars my dad has had since before I was born...
My dad has two 1940-something, fiat topolino's over in NZ

One  is 12hp and the other is 18hp.
got pull tabs on the B pillars that pop out as a low tech indicator.

Got to love all the oddities that come with older cars.
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
Love the front suspension, simply the best in concise yet modern dynamics
good sump mod and looking great all round. What paint will you use?
I found the rust paint from Japan is a great roll on paint that can be sanded
down in steps to look like its been sprayed on. I got the tip from the USA guys
who use their own cheap rust paint for the same process to avoid spraying.

G'day beetwenty, yeah love the older cars myself they are a lot easier to work on than modern ones, although 10HP or even 18 like you're Dad's is not much fun and i'd prefer to do be able to do more than 80 klm an hour. lol
I'd like to keep the old army look of the car d, as one of my mates said it looks like something out of the TV show Hogan's Heroes so i'm going to have to do some research and find what type of paint and colour they used.

Picked up some new shoes for her on the weekend, I wanted 15x6 but they are very rare so i ended up with 14x6. the car is up on stands still so she is sitting a bit high but i think they suit the old girl pretty well.
Was gonna say tones of Grey, Mint, Beige, crimson and all those old world colors are cool
just easier than painting is roll on and sanding just in case you didnt like spraying
Wheels are a little hyundai excel my mum had I prefer old ford flat steelies myself but each to their own

Yeah i would have prefered steelies too d but when i priced them they were $220 each bare rim, so by the time i added hubcaps and tyres they would have been out of my price range, I've already spent thousands on the old girl as it is maybe i'll change them down the track, the mags are second hand Auscar rims and were only $390 for the lot with brand new tyres, much more affordable

Thought some of you might be interested in the finished result, ended up rebuilding the engine, a 1200 with a large cam and a 1500 head, goes like a rat up a drainpipe at high revs but is pretty gutless down low so shortly i'm going to fit a rebuilt 1500 engine built more for torque.

boos tit
Looks great, good ride height bell balanced
just those hyundai wheels are too early 90s :}

Agree totally re the wheels and they are going to get changed to some retro steelies in the near future, more power first though lol.
Pedro hombre loco! mas fuerza? you really need it????

Si senor but i like mucho power , seriously though i live half an hour from town and there are a few big hills that if i don't get up to 110 k's for by the time i get to the top i'm down to 70 k's, that's why i need an engine with more torque.
Strange must be much heavier the prefect vs the 1000
My A12 with higher comp only and stock jetted A10 carb
used to climb steep long hills still accelerating over 80mph.

I love the A series but in such a beautiful car I would even
consider one of the smallest v8s for size and fitment ever made
the windsor 221 v8 can also use later alloy heads, early headers
like in the vid below with truck style flex pipes its nuts.
Even in Japan there is a vb10 1k wagon with a 350 chev
which is ridiculous but shows that front suspension is good.

Im not sure an extra 300cc is going to give you the speed you
are searching for but I guess its much cheaper to try the A15.
The A14 crank also fits the A12 block in case you need re-engineer
cert or something complicated. Uses A12 modded rods etc.

G'day d, don't get me wrong the old girl fangs at high revs and if i get up to 80 mph she powers up the hills too but i can't be doing 80 on every hill i come to sooner or later i'll end up with a ticket, the problem is the lack of power at lower revs, I read on the net that if you put a 1500 head on a 1200 they are gutless down low and with the big cam it just amplifies the problem which is what's happening with this engine, my mechanic mate who is building the new engine for me is boring it out and fitting a cam that will come in at lower revs so it will have a lot more torque and a wider power band so it will be more flexible and i won't have to be revving the crap out of it all the time.
Was thinking your beast if around 900kg vs our sub 700kg 1ks
hence the windsor nugget but since it definitely is the camshaft
I would recommend you put in a stocky even with the webers
will be night and day for torque in fact stock engines with better
comp, ignition and breathing are just pure joy to drive.

I went for A10 stock /hot/ to race/stock A15 and the stock A15
with gx grind, bike carbs, ignition and pipes was the best engine
until 2 of them suffered the same 1 and 2 bore split thanks to
79mm and 79.25mm slugs. Most A15 blocks do not suffer these
issues if coolant is changed as recommended since most dont
I was just unlucky with inner rust which created pin holes and
water and air in the wrong places.

I also had the luxury of using longer inlet pipes to run my
keihin 34 and 36mm bike carbs which made some engines
stall proof yet often asked if I had a rotary in it cause at
mid range and full song sounded like an extended 12a.

Sounds like an interesting combination especially with the bike carbs, Just been reading an article on the Datsun 1200 Wiki page about engine swaps to replace the 1200 engine and the 1500 sounds like the right choice, they describe it as a torquey engine which is what i'm looking for so i can just cruise around instead of having to rev it so much, also picked up a 5 speed box so that will be an improvement too.
Upgraded the old girl a bit, Recoed 1500 engine, rebuilt 5 speed non dogleg box and some 15" old school smoothie wheels, huge difference in power with the 1500 she really gets up and goes off the line and i can cruise up the hills in 5th gear no problem, then i fitted the wheels which made the gearing too tall so i'm looking for a 4.375 ratio diff centre out of a VB10 if anyone has one for sale.
Looks fantastic Pedro congratulations!  however H145 4.4 gears are rare and only on wagons or vb10 not sure for H150 though maybe also wagon 1200. Otherwise a cheap AMR500 supercharger with a single Su for low down torque should do the trick  then you can sell the webers and recoup all costs.
