Not much room left so I need to fab an intake up. Its not turbo, engineer would engineer it if it was. I'll try and find the time to take more pics and post them up.

remove material from the plenum if you have to as it wont affect it at all below 7000rpm
it has enough capacity but if the runners also hit then you best angle shave the secondary
runners that meet the primary. The angle should tilt it up away from the master cylinder.
Best method though is to leave it all alone and fit and underdash MCylinder like Tommoz
did in his 1200 coupe with the ca18det. ITs on the datsun1200.com forums.
Will cost you bugger all in parts and fabrication using wrecker parts.
I will be attempting this soon also as I hate master cylinder in the way of the quad bike carbs
I have planned on my L16/L18 hybrid using crossflow head.
some others also have done 280zx mc under the dash and many more eg.

awesome link ash was a great read.
if you haven't got enough room for a booster/master you can run one like d has suggested im not sure of the legalites with that sort of setup tho with it being in the cab, or you can run a remote booster like the old fords a vhf44 or something there called

Thanks Ash!! you are the missing link!
On that article I came to a conclusion a while back when it was released on another site that this supposedly ideal plenum with BMW like offset Velocity stacks would be much better if....
with the inlet angle in sample dynamics flow modeling chart below for if you look closely at the first four runners they are perfect for a 4 cylinder just not for a six which is fine for us! the offset stacks compliment all the areas as mentioned but the throttle body angle incrases the flow at higher rpm while maintaing the required friction and turbulence at lower throttle speeds.
It will suit a single 2 inch SU also without much issue of equal length as the flow looks magic.
After all the word in racing is a 48mm carb or throttle body can make 200hp so a 50.8mm
opening which is a 2 inch SU will be more than adequate and look oldschool to boot.

Datzon, sorry for steering your post towards that custom inlet manifold link.
If I was in your position I would be listening to D and start looking into the brake master cylinder swap to the inside of your firewall as your first option.
Building a custom plenium is far more hours than it looks, so if your only reason for modifying your inlet is room then I would suggest the brake mod.
One of my mates (datjas on here) and Ricky from Fantasy Performance made an inlet plenium for Datjas's FJ20 1200 a few years back.
Although it turned out well it was alot of hours to get to a finished product.
Link to Jasons 1200 on FJ20.com
Before they did this Jason was running a standard inlet plenium with the back end cut and welded up a little shorter to clear his brake master and booster.
It was still a very quick car with that mod.
Unless your chasing every little bit of power from your CA18 moding the standard inlet just enought to clear is the most sensible option in terms of hours Vs gain
That's if you are not interested in a brake mod.
Again my vote is to go with the brake mod and leave the inlet manifold as standard.

Id listen to Ash about a custom mani if you have the cash
Look at all Vans as a good example,,,, they all run booster and master cylinders inside the cabin and under the dash I would look at a suzuki carry pre-1990 model they have a nice compact setup that will suit a 1000 otherwise there are countless ways, like for example the last link on Tomoz`s setup cheap, simple and extra engine bay room to boot.

Sorry guys, I havn't had the time to reply. I have enough room for a master cylinder and clutch cylinder in the engine bay, all done & dusted. Its the room I have for an air box to put my filter in. Once again i'll post some pics to show whats going on, but i'll keep the standard plenium. I'll try tonight to take some new pics. Thanks again for the info on a custom plenium, its always an option.

This might work if you are tight on room for a filter..

Least of your problems!!! do you need to account for an airflow meter?

Just run a right angle out of the throttle body to a filter in the corner behind the drivers headlight.

you dont have to run a pod filter, you could get an airbox out of a different car that would probably suit better than a pod

You could run either the airbox and the flow meter off something else as mentioned

Air box sorted. I got a place called Tridant Plastics to make me up one. Fits well. Also took the car to get it wired up, whole new harness from front to back. The only problem is that I need the vaccum gear for the secondary butterfly. The car revs high at idle but when I squeeze the hose that leads to the AAC valve the butterfly moves & the idle slows. I'll have to sort that out.

I also looked at using a Nissan DOHC engine in one of my B10 cars but found that the addition of the overhead cams along with a generous sump capacity meant that the distance from the crossmember to the under-bonnet was a bit on the squeezy side.
Since I wish to retain the original suspension I could not cut the crossmember & surgery to add a 'power bulge' to the bonnet was not acceptable, I determined that one of these engines had too many negatives & not enough positives.
The solution for me is to utilise a short stroke A13 engine with a few mods,............... Quite a few mods.

All I did was cut about 15mm from the sump and packed the cross member about 5mm and I was able to fit it in under the bonet. I was going to put an A15 in it but like you said the amount of upgrades, had to weigh up the reliability of an A series to the CA. With the amonut of muck about I think it would all equal out.
