welded h150?, the strength of 1000 axels?

hey guys,

I have three complete rear ends for my 1000 (2xh145 and one with the h150 centre) and now can't stop thinking about welding the h150.. My only concern is that i will snap the stock axels pretty quick.. has anybody run a welded diff in a 1000 before?

cheers
My Blue Terror 4dr has a locker in it, but I'm pretty sure it's the stnd H145 4:11...and it sits on its bump stops...and I'm more of a Grampa these days so I never deliberately broke traction (that often) because I didn't want to break it (or get it impounded!).

Hmmm.... Big fat help I tuned out to be!
When the "D" hits your eye, like a txt smiley guy...
I used to run a welded centre in my racecar with A15 and sticky rubber
Car weighed 666kg plus driver (110)
Never broke an axle

When I bought the car it had a spare centre with a broken axle in it... so it does happen
Just never happened to me

I broke 2 centres in my A15 powered wagon... but no axles

Infact,... I've owned a 1000 or 2 (or 3) since 1984 and never broken an axle no matter how much I've abused them
But it can happen
I think the heat cycles over age and time conditions the metal

I think that's all the convincing i needed. Will weld it up and hope for the best if it goes bang... onto the next one.
wouldnt be too hard to get 2 pieces of steel and four HD
or small cylinder head springs to make a Phamtom grip
that way you can turn properly also

I have broken two axles.  The first through stupidity, I had a 5.1 Daihatsu (hi jet?) diff in the housing and the axles didn't go in as far as they should, the diff was a CIG (BOC - welded) locker.  It was great with a standard gearbox on a rally until about half way an axle broke, being a locker we still had one wheel drive and finished the event with a very bald tyre, it had to take all the drive and all the engine braking.

Second was on a standard 4.375 centre soon after I moved from living on a dirt road to a bitumen road, it went clunk right outside my house while I was turning the car around.  Never had a problem when I lived on dirt.

I now have a spring based slip limiting device from Bits Of Italy http://www.bitsofitaly.com/

What's a H150?

Do yourself a favor and run a Kia Sportage diff they often come with LSD
or you could run a mazda 1800 diff shortened with Mazda LSD or Sportage
they are the same diff.
Better setup the above they are very cheap or there is a 5.1 and 4.75
Daihatsu Terios diff they are about h158 hitachi unit and the right length.
