1000 Estate

Hi all,

Have looked here before however have not owned a 1000 till now. I have had Datsun's in my life since before i had a full licence. I have had many 1600 or 510's, 180B or 610 and a 720 ute. I have been keeping an eye out for a 1000 for a while and have seen a few going around for sale.
A few of you might have seen this one on e-bay. I did not win any of the auctions for it but i had emailed the owner while the auction was on for infomation about it. Any way a long story short- had a phone call last week asking if i was still looking as the ppl that had won the auctions could not come through with picking the car up. So i did.
Raod trip from Syd to just out side Bris and back with-in 21 hours and now it has a new home.
The car has the original log book and a bit of history on past owners. Unfortunitaly it does not have the standard enging in it   Everything else seems to be standard.
Plans atm historic rego, big clean up and like the rest of you keep an eye out for parts all over the world.
I have a bit to do with the Sydney Datsun Club and i know of quite a few 1000's ( of all types ) around my area and will try to get as many pic's up here as possibile.

Welcome and good choice of 1000!
Nothing wrong with the 1ltr its a nice little engine, zippy and fuel miser
like nothing else. If its mechanically good then you only seem to have
cosmetic restoration and the only thing I can pick is that you will suffer
extreme heat sauna like issues during the warm months.
I can only suggest that if you have the chance to paint the top part of the
car in artic white separated by the 66 style of chrome trims on the guards
that run all the way to the back making it easy to achieve 2 colors.
With whitewalls and red interior will look like no other 1k anywhere.

68 B20 ute
68 B10 2dr sedan
ca18det 1200 ute 180rwkw
12a montser port 1200 ute 212rwhp
Stocko 1200 wagon
Is that an original colour? Most datto's I've ever seen are white or pale colours
d, wish it was the original engine ( if any one has a spare 1000 engine please let me know ) however some one has dumped an A12 in to it so ill live with it atm- dont know about painting 2 tone for this one however the walls are on the way. Red interior is the idea the same as the stock but we will see where the dollar takes me in the future.

Thanks for the welcome ThouUte and yes they are original hubcaps. ( good score too ) as for the 1600 its cool but i wanted somthing the exact oppisit of what i have got for a while and thats what i have bought.

Custom1000- i have been looking for a 2 door wagon in stock form ( with no paint job ) but have just had to settle with a good deal on this one. The idea of trying to spray it back to stock is there butnot a priority atm.

I have a carby turbo set up for an a seires in the garage however one thing at a time. Besides if i want it on historic rego i have to get it past the stiff's before i push my luck   Not that i would be trying to make big powere out of it it just would be cool to have it spooling up againsted others. haha.

G'day Max.

Nice wagon. You may find that those hubcaps are from a 1200, nonetheless they suit it.

Not sure what your regs are there but here in SA we can go up to the 1.4 litre and if we do keep the original motor we can modify or boost it.

Be interested to see pics of the inside/dash area, looks like you have two different guards, one that suits a very early model and one that suits the later. I think this is a later model going by the grill but some more pics of the inside would help confirm. The instrument housing and LH guard do point toward an early model though.

Good score.
Hi clyons8,

I was not 100% sure about the hub caps so thank you for the heads up.

In Syd ( any one correct me if im wrong ) turbo on std motor just doubles the standard capacity so a12 would go to 2.4lt. Cant see too many enginers in syd wanting to put their name on that but then it all comes down to the dollar you pay here.
The inside is trashed. They are 1200 front seats, ( Im looking for any foward folding 1000 seats ) the standard rear looks terrible, door cards are sh!t but as mentioned the factoy red trim look is what im after. I think the DHS guard is off a later model due to the broken std indicator on LHS and some weird lens on the RHS.

I did not think the car was a delux but it still does have brackets for a heater box like someone has taken it out . It does not have reverse lenses though. Any more things i can look for?

I think it is a non-deluxe.

But it's hard to say without a few more pics of the inside.

It looks like you have the small chrome door handles (on the inside of the door) so this would make it a standard model.

Either way the deluxe was nothing special apart from a fairly limited list of mostly cosmetic add-ons.

I've put fixed seats in my 2dr as I never really carry any more than one other person so you might want to consider that as seats are fairly hard to find (definitely worth a try though).
small update- had a couple of hours this weekend and it now runs. ( sorry still no new pic's- ill work on that ) - drained fuel tank, basic service- found a carby problem so had a mate with a carby lying around- swaped it over- ran it on start ya bastard for the first min or 2 and hey presto, all good. Have taken the chance and purchased the simmilar looking nos mirrors that hav been on ebay and now to find some indicator lenses and historic rego here it comes. looking for electronic dizy if any one has one for a12. Dont want to pay new price as im sure some one has one lying around.
