Advice on a Steering Column Swap

Looking at that cutaway reminded me of being told that the 1000's didn't have a collapsible steering column and as I haven't even had a chance to investigate my own car for verification, is this true?

If that's the case, I think I would very much like to look into fitting a B110 column.  I'm aware of the mortal implications of being involved in a severe frontal regardless of fitting a collapsible column, but with this safety improvement, at least the chance of survival is raised from 0% to 10-20%!

Has anyone ever fitted a column (and possibly steering box) from a 1200 at all, or at least looked into the possibility? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Al.

yea we've talked about it pretty sure there's a thread somewhere on here, really need to get a 1200 steering column and box and just compare the 2. we were discussing it for the fact if you had a 1200 steering setup it would be alot easier to get parts

I think I found it Leith, "Steering Box Rebuild" from about a year ago?

Luckily I know someone with a rack of columns (is that the correct collective noun??) already removed, from 1000's, 1200's and 120Y's.  Looks lie I have some looking and measuring to do this weekend.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction buddy.

no worries i think that would be the one, most of our topics seem take a right turn lol

was looking at this for people who want to do engine conversions but haven't got around to it, to busy with the stupid house takes away my datsun time lol

anyway will be great to see the results make sure you post them up! me and ash had high hopes they'd be pretty similar because the idler arm from a 1200 is comaptabile with our thou's

Mikes got a few scars from a head on with a 4wd in a thou
He's still got the busted steering wheel with his face impression in it
And pics too

Reality... hit something hard enough and there won't be much 1000 left no matter what column is in the car
But if you want to do it... convert to a rack while your at it
and there is plenty of story to work out, how and why..
I never got the chance to wander next door (that's right, the house we bought is next door to Kdogg! There goes the neighbourhood...) and compare racks over the weekend, I spend all of my free time sanding the bedroom floors in preparation for the floorboards going down. Nevertheless, we move next weekend so I'll have all the time in the world...and a 14x10m shed to play in!

Hi there!
I know this is an old post but I am wondering if there was any update on this?
this is an interesting topic and one Ive brought up in 2005 on datsun1200.com as Id love to use a 1200 collapsible steering column and a starlet or corolla steering rack, definitely safer

I have been told a laser KB column will fit
Sounds good to me, Laser the amazer

I've put a 120y collapsible column in my 1K. The only thing I did was fab up a plate for the braket top support.
Any chance of some pics of the 120y swap?

This is something alot of us will be keen on seeing.
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
I'll try and get some, a bit flat out lately. The steering box bolts right on,the only thing needed to do is fab up a plate on to existing column mount so as the new backet can be mounted. The shaft of the column is thinker so the boot rubber that goes around it is hard to get on and the spline from memory may be the same dia but has a different amount of splines on it. It has less splines on it.  Like I said I'll try to find some pics. This is not a very good pic but you can see the thinker column in this pic.
Hi All,
I'm new to this group and I came across it whilst looking for parts.
Can anybody help me with an indicator switch assembly part no. 25540-H0100 for a 1969-70 Datsun Light van  model VB10?

Also, but not as urgently, does anybody have and wish to sell tail lights and/or lenses for the same van?

Many thanks
Claudio
Check with the guy that started this thread
He bought my 69 wagon off me and picked it up last weekend
Should have all those parts still on it
Someone ask for late model VB10 bits??
I have what you need and am more than happy to assist, but need a strong level of commitment as the car isn't with me and getting the bits means a trip out to Upper Bumfuck.

Thanks Neil and DatsAmore,

It sounds like DatsAmore, you might have an indicator switch assembly part no. 25540-H0100 for a 1969-70 Datsun Light van model VB10.  I take it that it's a used one?  If so, what condition is it in and what would you want for it?

Ideally, I guess I would be looking for a new one (if that's possible!) as any used one at this stage, might be as 'used' as the one we have. It's a matter of luck!

Anyway, let me know what you have and if you want to sell it, we can go from there.
Many thanks!
Cheers,

Claudio
