Car Insurance., Who to use?

Im almost ready to get a roadworthy for my new B10, So im going to need to get some some insurance for it before I hit the streets.

Are there any companys that are better to use than others?
I enquired with Suncorp as I have a hilux insured with them, but they don't insure cars as old as my 1000, I know Shannons do insurance for old cars. are they any good?

Im just after something that will cover me if I crash into some one else while im out and about.

If you car is worth less than $5000 and you only want third party property insurance, shannons are good. I'm under 25 (but with good driving record) and they are very affordable and accept any modifications. As far as my experience goes very few companies if any apart from just car and shannons will insure mods.
Prices on comprehensive weren't too bad for me either, but I have never had that in my life. Insurance is kinda like gambling: if you pay $1000 a year for insurance and your car is only worth $3000, if you can go three years without an accident why would you bother, you could basically buy your car over again, and any amount of time over that you are saving cash.
I think RACV do a reasonable 3rd party option for older cars. You shouldnt pay more than 300 bucks
otherwise you best drive around and be taken to court at worst with a weekly fee if youre at fault.

Thanks guys, I might see what Shannons and RACQ can do.

Im not too worried about insuring the car for a payout to me, im more interested in insuring it for any costs I could be up for to fix other viechles if I had an accident and was found to be at fault.

Shannons are a winner for modifications. My Pootrol has an "extensive" list of mods and accessories and Shannons were the only ones that would help me. I had to argue with them about the body type as mine doesent exist aparently, but once past this, they are reasonable.

Agreed value, and not too high priced.

I used to insure my thou (before it came off the road) with SGIO and they were happy to insure it for 3rd party and comprensive and were very competitave.

I went to RACQ They Quoted me $167 a year for third party liability.
That was after answering the usual questions... have you crashed?, Are you a criminal?, are you over 25? ect.

They wanted to know which grille, if the car had crome around the doors ect.
I was amazed that a big company would know so much about 1000's.
