Does anyone have a GOOD contact for radiator work?
it seems the rebuilding of old radiators might be a dying art, 
the mod of choice on a 1000 is to bung a triple core in, then it is good for whatever A series you can stuff into it, 
just been doing a bit of a hunt, and some of the quites to recore are crazy,$495, $510, $550, 
and $650 for aluminium, 
I'm in Perth, but at this rate, it could be worth post...

I would never go alloy Master D, I find they are weak things but I did go through alibaba
in which they dont charge if the product is not up to standard when it arrives which saves
on dodgy work and losing a bunch of moneys. I got quote 100-150 depending on numbers
a long time ago on 1200.com but getting peeps is an issue in the end.
 
There are plenty of radiator places still in Melbourne that I would send to if you cant find
a local joint your way and at worst you could send the measurements to an ebay cheapy
but as you know very hard to do.

what are the 1000 dimensions??? below is one to consider....

Hi All,
on the subject of radiators and also relating to my earler posts about finding one for my uncle's 1000 light van, I'd like to put out some info on getting a radiator made up.
My uncle did some looking around where he lives and came up with a guy who can make up radiators from scratch.
 
After three days, he took delivery of the radiator to suit the VB10. It's a three-row core and my uncle is really happy with the overall quality of workmanship. He found the core and cut it down to the right height and cut down brackets for the mounts. He had some tanks that were very close to original. It has the overflow tube pointing towards the passenger side, which is the opposite to original, but as someone pointed out, it lends itself to installig an overflow bottle.
 
To be entirely accurate, the core is about 20 mm too narrow in width, but the right height. It does not have a drain tap as per original, but that's due more to him not having the original there to work from (as it was still on the car!) . Still, a tap could be added at a later date. It looks it pretty spot-on, anyway. These detail differences are there simply because he did not have a sample radiator. They would be easily possible otherwise. There's a pic I took to give you an idea.

Prices: with your own core: about $160 or so, I think. For the radiator as shown here: $500.

I guess it might be a bit pricey, but I think people who re-do things from the basics are harder and harder to find. Most modern things are driven by expediency and get thrown away before getting a new one. Don't know if you agree with that, and this is relative to everyone's point of view - but $500 (whilst not a bargain price!) is probably OK to keep something you love on the road. If you have your own tanks, it would be cheaper again.

Got mine triple cored for $400 at natrad. That included repairs to overflow tube and a bit of a leak, I think $500 isn't to bad but still needs drain. I don't understand why an overflow tank can't be used with the std rad!

I'm adding an update to the radiator pricing just to clear up some details on the price in my earlier posts.
 
I mentioned my uncle paid $500 for a radiator for his 1000. This was for a complete radiator, including tanks and the mouting brackets. The guy made all of these up (i.e. found some and adapted them to a 1000 radiator size.) My uncle could not have the car off the road, so could not use the old bits for the new radiator.
 
If you took or sent him your own tanks and mounting brackets, the price would be more like $350 for a new three-row core and the actual assembly work. (It could be even cheaper.) Of course, it would be best if anybody interested talked to the guy directly, for a more accurate pricing. I've posted the details in my earler message.
All in all, a pretty reasonable price, I think. (Easy enough for me to say - but it's your money!  )
