Derrick, If you do make your own (I hope you do), some more info I should point out on what I did is...

I left my final trimming untill after the instrument panel and ash tray holes were finalised.
These items hold the dash in place, so once they are done then you will know for certian where everything will end up.

It might only be a few mm of potential error, but it will show if you get it wrong as the straight edge on the front lines up with a ridge line along the front of the dash.

For trimming the straight edge on the front of the dash, i used only the ash tray to hold it in place, then used a straight edge to mark out a line about 1mm above the ridge in the dash where the dash pad stops.
This 1mm is for the thickness added when wraping vinyl onto the dash pad.

You can use a block and sand paper to trim the dash edges down to your pencil lines.

For trimming the windscreen edge of the dash pad, I used a thin tube to mark out a constant distance from my windscreen rubber, and a larger tube for the vent cut outs.

I did this as i didn't want my dash pad hard against the window rubber.

Sand and Shape the dash pad before trimming the vent cut outs to their final size, as they will thin out on the corners as you shape everything smooth.

I hope this info makes things easier for you.

If you can get your hands on an early model instrument cluster surround, then you can do the same to yours.
what Andrew said....
While i am in the Vinyl mood, I have decided to make up a Panel to cover my fuel tank.

I just used an old piece of cardboard to make up my template, the fuel filler hose was on one side only, so I just cut out the lower edge and bent it up for marking onto my mdf.

Here is my board cut to shape and in place.

Here it is covered in vinyl.

And in place.

When I get to painting elsewhere on my 1000, I will paint inside my boot the same colour as my car.
Later on I will make up some frame work to support a panel that will cover my spare wheel. (+50mm hieght from the base of my boot)

I will use the voids within my frame to hold a basic tool kit.
I still need to buy a tool kit, so im holding off on building my frame, as i don't know the dimensions of what im storing under the floor panel.
I am hoping that keeping everything hidden from sight will give things a clean look when I am done.

I also recieved my new wheel nuts in the post.

I Registered my Datsun today. Horay!

I spent the afternoon driving about visiting friends, I am amazed at how much love there is for these cars while driving about in traffic.

Ash.

Congrats!! Btw thanks for letting us know about the speedo conv. kit... Chris is a nice bloke and holy crap the museum will be awesome once it's up!

Hope to have mine on the road again in a month or two hopefully!
Totally agree Ash! It amazed me as well, when I get to drive the missus' 1000. Seems to put a smile on so many peoples faces
Time for a quick update.

New steering wheel.

Also since my last post I have done the following...

NOS guard indicators, NOS Butterfly window hinges, Star-Shark Centre-Caps, Chrome roof gutter moulding, New front windscreen, new windsreen rubbers front & rear, NOS rear bumper (Minor piting in one corner), rear 1/4's rust repaired with new metal welded in, interrior metal dash and pillars painted.

Now all i need is a few extra horse power...

Looking good Ash, you can never have to much power! Wheels look great not to mention all the new shiny bits. How long have you had the new screen for or do you know a supplier?
Thanks, screen went in just before christmas.
The paint shop organised it for me, so am unsure about suppliers.

looks awesome Ash...
you need a coupe console to go with that fancy wheel...
Holy Moly Ash!

The NOS parts stash is shrinking eh?

You're getting pretty handy with a camera there. How did you get the interior shot lit so well without overexposing the sky etc?
Nah, i have a Mc-console already.
A maccas coffee fits snug between the seats and stays put under careless driving.

I did over expose the sky, was an overcast day, natures lightbox

your coffee will still go between the seats,
the coupe console is the most useless must have Thou ornament ever... ha ha
I only know of two in the country, Dodgeman has one, and i picked one up a few years ago...
