Beetwenty's B10 2 door

When I was at the All Jap show last weekend I got talking to a guy that had a 1000 at home for sale.
I went over to have a look at it after the show and fell in love with it straight away, so I got a personal loan during the week and picked it up today.

Here are some pics of my new 1000...

1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
Yes this is neat, was advertised as a Datsun 2000.

There was a thread on 3 speed columnd shifts that mentioned this car.

Here is the link http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=51753&forum=2&post_id=371574#forumpost371574
Im having thoughts of selling the ute and making this my project car.
It would get me driving a 1000 about a year earlier, and I think the 2 door has more character.

looks good mate
If it becomes the project car then that means it also comes off the road?

Keep the ute and work on that. Drive the 2-door, easy as! To be fair on the ute the 2 dr is also much more complete so it sure does have more character.
Nice buy! Looks great

If it becomes the project it won't go as far as the ute in any one step.
Im happy with the paint quality and colour, there is some small rust in a few places (5 cent piece size) that I can fix as I go.
I can paint the engine bay once a fresh a series is built and about to go in.

Congrats and lovely retro colour! will look good with a blue a series or red.
Its got exactly the same seats as my 1000 van with the same felt which
I thought was a custom job until now.
You should consider an older restoration as its so clean you can just work
on her while still driving her as they are very economical.
Build your chosen engine combo on the side, do the grille and other cosmetics
as you go and then the wack on the RS watanabes at the end ).
When its time you can take her off the road for the engine bay, wiring etc.
I wouldnt let the ute go they are so rare and youve done really well so far.
You can also do a rat ute, no bumpers, simple mechanics etc. Then one day
if you want to do more at least it has no rust or problem areas.
All in all you will be the envy of many jdm enthusiasts and encourage people
to look after and restore 1000s, well done.

Thanks D
I have had intrest in my ute already.
If i let it go it will be going to a very very good home.

If this B10 didn't come up I would be doing the ute without doubt.
once it had some colour it would go together and look like a ute again fairly quickly.

I want to move in a few months to a place with a double garage so the 1000 can have shelter at the same time as my little brothers future project. So I should trim down on alot of my extra 1000 stuff before the move.

Building the 2 door while driving it is looking like the plan, If my little bro wants to go crazy in the garage he can just drive my 1000 onto the street.

Hopefully all of us on here have encouraged poeple to look after 1000's.
there are some real tidy 1000's amoung us.
I know when I look at peoples build diarys it increases my passion for these cars.
I don't think it matters what budget people have, fixing things up adds life to their cars.
And makes you far prouder of your ride, It's a good feeling knowing you are responsible for saving a 1000.

They are so simple, in the near future many people will wish they had something
so simple to get from A to B or Z reliably and fuzz free.
Simple things like bumperettes made from cutting the bends of damaged 4wd
bullbars and rollbars saves heaps of money and a little weight.
Im thinking of putting sliding windows on my tudor to rid the winding mechanism
and noise from future rubber issues.  Special versions of Alfas have tought me a
few tricks on how to get the best from minimalism.
Still cant believe you have probably the only real proper beige one in existance.

I restored the rear bumper,
I cleaned up the inside with a wire wheel on a drill, rust converted then painted the inside silver.
Sand blasted the brackets and centre join inside the bumper and rust convertered and painted them gloss black.

I also removed the silver paint from the outside of the bumper that was painted on before I bought the car and polished off the surface rust with a buff pad on the bench grinder.

It's not perfect, but it has come up worlds better than it was before I got to it.

Something teels me I will need new plates. Doh!

PPQ is down for maintence.

I might see if any of the honda boys want a BEE 020 plate, would you want it for your ute Leith?

Im leaving the over-riders off, keeping the wheels, discs up front and a booster, Lower the rear to match the front, new ball joints ect, New carpet, most of the new parts in my cupboard will go on, and a stockish A14 or A15 engine down the line.

PPQ is back.

I Just bought a new plate.

great plates! that bumper looks much better without the overriders.
Cleaners lines and so shiny you can see the light off the duco.
Those wheels are quite nice are they polished up to mirror?
They will look very nice with thin whitewalls.
Ive got the same grille Id love to restore, mine was worse than yours
and I have straightened it up to almost original but needs polishing
but its going to be hard to do as it catches with the buffer easily.

My grille has a tear so I will have to get it rewelded.
I was thinking of straightening the grille up as good as I can and polishing it up too.
I think It will have to be a good old hand polish or maybe a polish wheel on the dremmel, the grille looks like it has too many leading and trailing edges close together for a buff.

I bought another one of those grilles from ebay in febuary, it never showed. Im hating not having it now even more.

Wheels are dull, I want to polish the outside lip only.

You have the deluxe smokey polaroid windows?

I bought some durafix from ebay which you can weld things like this
I think much better than tig have a look at the can demo

I think Im going to try some of this when I do my grille, it looks perfectly suited to my needs and lack of knowledge/equipment for aluminium welding.
Thanks d.
