Hi Ash,

Regarding the grill, I would suggest you look into getting it repaired and restored by Allan McCoy.

Classic Car Guru's- Allan McCoy

I have heard very very good reviews about him. I do not think he will be able to quote you until he receives the grill. If he needs a good grille to go with it you can borrow mine whilst I finish all these engines I've started.

Personally I wouldn't muck around with it. These things are pretty thin on the ground and apart from the one you bought I haven't seen any others for sale (that weren't attached to a vehicle). Send the thing to a professional and have it welded properly and restored.

There is an article coming up in the August 2011HOTROD magazine (USA) that covers grill modification (aluminium), there is an ace in there tig welding the grill, I don't think it's much thicker than our stuff so it's definitely do-able. The magazine also has some really good articles on body work. If you have a spare 100mb somewhere I can upload it.
Durafix is easy to use even for me, I got a cheaper brand from ebay (prob same thing
diff name) I repaired a thin ally dumpling steamer handle came up stronger than new.
The coke can demo just freaked me out when I saw it with some of the other stuff
like manifold and thread repairs is just hard to ignore.

Polishing is another thing though I will have to get a small dremel and right small pads.
I need a dremel anyway for heaps of other things so its a worthwhile investment.
The trick could be to place the grille on the some dense carpet that way a larger buffer
doesnt just have just thin air through the gaps. Then easiet to tackle 2 sepaerate halves.

As for spending money on bike parts instead? A series would love quad bike carbs

A mate of mine just broke his collar bone doing downhill on his dually. Missed his exams and looks like he'll miss the supplementary exams too cos he has had surgery. I haven't gone for a ride since!

I have taken a break for winter, I was doing it 2 days after work minimum, but was usualy 1 day of the weekend aswell.
I got some major progress...

Lots of cutting back of overgrown branches ect. 2 trail closures/revegitated and replaced with sustainable new trails,  3 major trail overhauls (2 of which have some sweet sections with multiple berms back to back snaking down the hill) and an almost never ending list of erosion solutions & rock drains.

I will consider having the grille done when it is time.
I was thinking of trying a guy that my dad uses for his cars, this guy is a metal god.

Here are some examples of what he can make from sheet metal.

Already tried it, Rubber likes to be the shape it is once it has cured.
Uncured rubber has a minimum quantity that is outside my budget and requires a factory with the correct machines to cure it.

Im still thinking of using the eratrowel, im just thinking of making up a mould and painting it on.

yea thought you mentioned something, you can get this sports floor paint that's applied from 6-12mm thick i'll look into it if you want see if it can handle the heat and what not

It's pretty much rhino lining.
It is a urethane that is not so runny so I can make a 1 sided mould and paint it on.

Im going to drop in some new shock absorbers front + rear and new leaf spring rubbers for the rear leaf springs over the weekend.
I Still have to pop off the drums and see how the slave cylinders and pads are, Change anything that needs doing.
Adjust the slack out of the handbrake, adjust headlight angles, Wash off the motor and box, check and replace and tie rod boots, ect. (They have zero slack so im holding off on the new tie rods and ball joints for now).
Spark plug leads need doing, they are mega old.
Wire up the guard repeaters.

Seat belts, I can't find any mounting holes, Im thinking it has never had any.
Im getting some lap belts, so im going to have to do large 3mm thick plates under the floor.
Im still waiting for seat belts to arrive.

So is probably still a few weeks off yet.

I have already replaced the battery with a new one, although I still have to make up a battery clamp.
Replaced rubber fuel lines and filter, fan belt, starter motor, overflow hose, vaccum hose, had fresh keys made up.
removed the old radio set up, (AM is still in the dash).

I also had a go at beating the drivers side headlight rim into something a bit straighter.
