Beetwenty's B10 2 door

Thanks D.

I'm jealous of mini freaks.

I'd love to own a mini.

I made a custom backing plate to adapt an L Series SU airbox onto my DCOE Weber.
.

Still want my SU carbs on there.
But this is a great temporary mod to keep me happy with things.

Battery is normal size... I think.

With All jap day just around the corner I find myself looking for subtle ways to make my car a little better that the last time I went.

Today's project... lowering the number plate so you can see more of the chrome bumper from any angle.

I bent up some 1mm aluminium sheet and poped in some riv nuts to make the part.

I decided to keep the bracket shiney instead of painting it black as I thought this would hide on the chrome bar a little better than something painted.

I'm amazed at how much this simple mod perceprivley shrinks the car when seeing it in person.

Having the number plate lower makes the car feel lower/smaller to me when standing in front of the car.

Didn't expect it to make such a difference to how I feel about the front of my car.

Ive binned the bracket in the past too Ash,
I think I just bolted the plate to the bumper holes, as it curved the plate a bit to fit in nicely,

definately a good mod...
I think it is an excellent mod.

Sometimes the small things turn out to be more important than you think.

Made a small steel bracket to better mount two throttle return springs on my Weber today.

It's nothing major, but an improvement is an improvement ,so worth doing.

Today I attended All Jap Day in Banyo, Brisbane.

I took home a trophy for my 1000 which made my day.

well done sir
Thank you Neil.

Hats off to you Ash. Keeping the B10 legend alive.
Legend Ash,

look at us go winning stuff,

Datsun 1000, it's got the lot..
Thanks Guys.

Dundee,
It seems that car show Judges think 1000's are great little cars.
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
You got the Datsun Bunny as well?
just judge thought 1ks are great little cars?
I think most that lay eyes on your gem are
just blown away by its awesomeness!

Just last week driving my one of only 100
BRG high power factory 90hp optioned
John Cooper Special Rover Mini and got
an offer outside of a convenient store.
I took without a second thought as all FWD
even this thing did nothing for me.

Your 1k is easily the best custom 1k on earth
congratulations.

I made/bought the Sunny Bunny to draw your eye to my entrant number.
I thought id try my luck and make an effort to win something at the show.
The Sunny Kun and Pointing-Hand was a silly little touch to remember my car for.

Thanks for the compliments D.
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
I've been ignoring my A14 swap for ages now, so its about time I get the ball rolling again and build the car I want to own.

As part of the engine swap, brakes are on the list of things to do, so I have been slowly chipping away at a rear brake swap.
This is to compliment a front brake swap I've also had going in the background for ages.

Fronts will be a D.I.Y Version of the maddat swap... so commodore callipers and pintara rotors, brackets etc.
Which I'm sure every 1000 owner knows by now.
So no use opening plastic storage buckets to get pics of that.

Rear brakes are Nissan S14 callipers and  Honda Accord Rotors. (RDA271)
I've had all the callipers rebuilt at my local brake shop, bought anti rattle shims, brake pads and some aftermarket GKtech handbrake cables to modify.

Here are some pics of the rear brake brackets loosely bolted together to see it all in place.

I Thought I had calliper mounts sorted out ages ago, but when I went to figure out handbrake cables and took another look at it all, I realised my rear shocks would interfere with the cables, so spent last weekend remaking mounts and now have the callipers mounting forward of the rear axel.

The mounts bolt onto the inside face of the diff and after drilling the plates with a giant hole saw, I hand filed the last 1mm or so until I achieved a snug fit.between the diff and caliper mounting bracket.

I have also chosen to use grade 12.9 - M8 bolts with a shanked section passing through where the plates and diff intersect to give a tighter tolerance to it all.

This is what I ended up with as plates after my second attempt was complete..

So next step is to think about handbrake cables, brake lines, master cyl etc.
But at least its progress.

This weekend I decided to make a start on my handbrake cable routing/mounting.

To do this I have made a bracket which will hold my handbrake cable outers in place.
Here is a photo of my full length S14 cables showing my intended cable routing path.

My bracket is made from some 25x50mm rectangular tubing with a 5mm plate of steel welded onto each end.

The new bracket is mounted to my diff with some long 8mm studs at the diff centre and a welded on mounting point which is made from box tubing and a captive nut welded on to the back of my welded on mounting poimt.

Last week I purchased some aluminium P-Clips from eBay and made/welded on a mounting point from a joiner nut to hold my handbrake cable in place.

Alignment for my mounting point was simply a long bolt and some welding magnets.

I also relocated the mounting point for the brass brake hose junction to the same location as what's currently on the diff in my sedan.
As the diff I'm modifying had the brake line attaching from the opposite side of the diff.
Diff is from a 1000 ute as far as I know.

This mounting point was also made from modified joiner nuts.

Next on the list for my rear brake swap is soft lines from my brake callipers, but will be at least 2 weeks away as the shop needs to order funny ends for my lines.

Well that only took me a day to change my plan for the handbrake cable holder.

New plan is to hold the outer loosely so the cable can move as the caliper slides during use.

I ended up welding on a small metal tab to stop my P-clip from rotating and loosening the bolt during use.

And a photo showing the new cable routing plan, along with some mounting points to hold my hard lines when I make them up.
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
Always impoving...good to see
Picked up my rear brake lines today and got one side mounted and only have the hard line to go....

And then i decided to have another look-see under the sedan and came to the horrifying realisation that I have chosen an inappropriate brake calliper for my swap

The brake line and bleeder nipple etc will all interfere with my chassis rails as the diff goes up/down through it's suspension travel.
The S14 calliper is simply too long on the rear end and no orientation of the parts will solve my issue.

So its time to rethink the rear brake swap, or just keep the rear as drums and come back to it at a later date if at all.
I wish i had seen this/understood the 3 dimensional space before committing to it so heavily.

Hopefully I can learn from this experience and have smoother sailing as i progress my build.

*Edit. A friend has some R31 callipers for me to have a look at some stage.
I've seen them on a 1000 coupe, but the coupe was running a 1200 ute diff, so may not clear things on the narrower 1000 diff.

Time will tell...
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
Would this setup on the wider B110 diff housing give the clearance you need. Would the wheels still be under the rear guards though.
my vb10 had r31 rear discs and calipers using r31 rear caliper plates/mounts which slide on or not welded up. TBH never liked discs in the rear as the disc was not only larger diameter than the front which were a little wider, the handbrake was never as effective or powerful as the stock drum setup. If I did it all again I would just use bluebird S2 or S3 rear drums with alloy finned 260z drums. They are much larger so handbrake/shoes have about 25-35% more surface area and all much lighter all up than a disc caliper setup.

Just on another note if you can still source some wrecker VOLVO 360GLT rear mono leaf springs you can have even better handling, lighter with higher quality steel often used by many other leaf sprung car racing and road rally communities like for Ford Escort, Nissan Fairlady roadsters, MG and more.

With the skill you are amassing you could probably source a H165 put an ae86 LSD and axles, alloy H165 alloy carrier with Bluey S2/3 drums and 260z alloy finned drums, 2 way adjustable shock absorbers and call it a day.
