I've been ignoring my A14 swap for ages now, so its about time I get the ball rolling again and build the car I want to own.
As part of the engine swap, brakes are on the list of things to do, so I have been slowly chipping away at a rear brake swap.
This is to compliment a front brake swap I've also had going in the background for ages.
Fronts will be a D.I.Y Version of the maddat swap... so commodore callipers and pintara rotors, brackets etc.
Which I'm sure every 1000 owner knows by now.
So no use opening plastic storage buckets to get pics of that.
Rear brakes are Nissan S14 callipers and Honda Accord Rotors. (RDA271)
I've had all the callipers rebuilt at my local brake shop, bought anti rattle shims, brake pads and some aftermarket GKtech handbrake cables to modify.
Here are some pics of the rear brake brackets loosely bolted together to see it all in place.
I Thought I had calliper mounts sorted out ages ago, but when I went to figure out handbrake cables and took another look at it all, I realised my rear shocks would interfere with the cables, so spent last weekend remaking mounts and now have the callipers mounting forward of the rear axel.
The mounts bolt onto the inside face of the diff and after drilling the plates with a giant hole saw, I hand filed the last 1mm or so until I achieved a snug fit.between the diff and caliper mounting bracket.
I have also chosen to use grade 12.9 - M8 bolts with a shanked section passing through where the plates and diff intersect to give a tighter tolerance to it all.
This is what I ended up with as plates after my second attempt was complete..
So next step is to think about handbrake cables, brake lines, master cyl etc.
But at least its progress.
Ash.
