Beetwenty's B10 2 door

Thanks for all the advice Neil.
My brake swap went easier because of you.

I have now removed the engine and replaced my cross member, upper and lower control arms, ball joints, bushings rubber pads etc.

Tomorrows plan is to make up some crush tubes for my super pro castor rod bushings, as the ones I bought don't have any in the packet and the ones on my car look very cheap and nasty.

Plan is to drill a 12mm hole in some round bar and turn the O.D. to match the bushings.

Just need to figure the proper length as I don't trust what I have as being ideal.
1967 Datsun B10 2 Door.
Did the same on my wagoon years ago
My mech machined down some tube he had in the shed
No idea on length though
I found the info on the whitelne website.

16mm OD, 12.8mm ID, 42mm Length.

I am gong to just drill the ID with a 12mm drill bit as it only needs to fit over an M12x1.25 thread.

I made some crush tubes from some round bar on my mini-lathe.

I have also finally fitted my new old stock front apron that i had painted ages ago.
Still need to refit the bumper and wire up my lights, parkers etc.

And I also fitted my modified Mitshbishi Colt radiator.
RB-RE Auto 82-90

(Outlet removed from drivers side and an outlet added on the Passenger side).

I chose the colt radiator as I like the look of older styled copper brass radiators.
It is tripple core, so should be a good radiator for the A14.

It is taller than a 1000 radiator, but dosnt bother me as I am able to run it too low...
As I have replaced the rusted out metal below it with some 50x50x3mm angle and the colt radiator just squeezes into my new space.
.

And have also replaced the studs in my exhaust manifold as I broke one undoing them, so drilled the stud and on my last drill size it wound out the last of the thread/stud.
So ran a tap through all the threads and installed new ones with some nickel-antisieze.

Today I finished up on plugging in the lights etc, modified my brackets that hold my golf lip on to allow easier access to the indicator mounting screws, installed the bumper and dropped the A14 into the engine bay.

It is just in there loosey goosey at the moment to allow tilt for trial fitting the gearbox.

The alternator is  now also competing for room with the battery, so will look into something smaller as id rather that than something in the boot.

Next plan is to use a 4 speed 60 series box... so I needed to move the drivers side gearbox mount rearward a little bit to allow room for the reverse sender on the box.
So I unpicked and then rewelded it into its new position. (Approx. 20mm rearward from stock)

This will mean I need to make up a custom gearbox crossmember & mount to finish the engine/gearbox mounting points.

Can you not put the alt back down low on the passengers side ?
I could...But that space is for my Air con Compressor.

Posting links here sucks
I love those guys.

I ended up buying the worlds most expensive battery, so im now at the mercy of the postman.
But it is small enough to suit my needs so should be worth it when all is said and done and the manufacturer claims it to have a 5 to 10 year expected life.

As for links... type what you want the text of your link to read.
select that text which should illuminate the link options at the top of your text editor. (Picture of a chain link)
paste your link address into the field in the pop up window, and select if you want the link to open in a new page or not from the target option within the same pop up window.
Click the insert button on the same popup window and your links should work.

Part 2

Gearbox is now mounted.

Over the weekend I made a start on sorting a bunch of smaller things, gearbox oil, reverse sender wiring etc.
Amongst these things was an adapter to use my early datsun 1200 clutch cable on my late model box.

I also fitted my thermo fan, exhaust, inlet manifold, carb and sorted radiator upper and lower hoses.
For the top I used a lower hose from a 1200 ute (Mackay CH955) and ended up using a Holden jackeroo upper hose for my lower hose (Mackay CH2459)

Starting to look like a car again.

Going well

Wish one of mine was driveable
Mines still not drivable yet.

Need to sort alternator wiring now that ive moved it to the drivers side.
Install and wire my waterpump/fan controller.
figure out heater hoses, heater tap and controls for it.
Mount Battery.
redo my mount for my catch can.
sort a radiator overflow bottle.

the list goes on...

I got my mod plate for everything I've done.
So I'm happy as can be.

Time to.take the 1000 for.more drives again before redoing exhaust, carbs and airbox next year.

It is no exaggeration to state this is the best modded 1000 I have ever seen.
There was a member from the Panamas or some central American location
that had some beauties as well but this car is a treasure of Terra Australis.

Thanks D.
There is still plenty to improve on it, but i am very happy with the decisions made so far.

I've gone away from my twin SU idea and am working towards twin 38dcoe carbs.
I have 2 new old stock 38-DCOE carbs here now and plan on trying things with 28mm chokes.
Went the 38's as they are the better size for chokes under 30mm (Based on the 1.25:1 carb bore to choke ratio for efficient fuelling/vacuum)

I also have a Tomei Manifold and an aftermarket Air box designed for a BMW 2002.
But need to sort my new exhaust, and a different fuel system hopefully with a return to tank first, then buy all the chokes, jets, emulsion tubes etc.

Should be a nice setup when it is all sorted... just need to save up to sort it. (Or spend savings).

And obviously ill need to modify the airbox to fit the spacing of my weber on my manifold and then paint it red.
Hope you like the sneak peak.

Datsun is everything BMW wanted to be in the 1960s and 70s

Those are the better manifolds for webers, straight in no bends.
I had 36mm kehins which also ran better than larger sizes no
matter how they were tuned the 36s were just better all round.

just in case you havent seen why bmw and alfa hated datsuns in racing

I have seen that video before, it is excellent.

I recently Bought myself a TIG welder,...
Aside from watching some you tube videos and having limited practice on a small amount of scraps messing about in my spare time, I'm a complete newbie to Tig welding,'

So naturally, I decided to dive in the deep end and have a try at making/welding my new exhaust.

I started with my GX exhaust Manifold and bolted the 2into 1 section that i made (and had my friend weld for me ages ago).

The remainder of the exhaust I made and welded.

It is 1 3/4 stainless with a resonator and straight through muffler similar in design to a resonator.

I am very happy with how it has come out as for the most part I had no idea what I was doing.
I might add another hanger point half way along at some stage to be extra sure it is supported well.

Not bad

Hows it sound ?
Could roll your car downside up on a rotisserie after an offroad course
and still be able to eat of it the 1000 reminds me of the Father of the
bigger son the 510 became with similar lines. Glad we see most of the
same vids - this is also my fave for the sound when he goes for 10.5k rpm

That stainless dual section makes the lovely cast header look heavy
